Engineering Manager

Job Description

Champion GSE Company, a subsidiary of the DEDIENNE Group, is a growing manufacturer of transport containers and industrial ground support equipment serving aerospace and industrial markets. To support continued expansion in the United States, we are seeking an experienced, motivated Engineering Manager to lead product design engineering and oversee manufacturing process engineering to support customer requirements while driving labor and material cost improvements. This role primarily oversees the design and development of new products and directly manages the manufacturing engineering team supporting production.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

♦ Perform all responsibilities in a way that reinforces our company's core values.

♦ Lead all aspects of product design and development, from concept through release, using NX or CATIA, ensuring designs meet aerospace and military customer specifications and industry standards.

♦ Own design-for-manufacturability (DFM) and design-for-assembly (DFA) practices, partnering closely with manufacturing engineering to ensure new products are producible, cost-effective, and meet quality requirements before release.

♦ Direct and oversee the manufacturing engineering function, including work packages (prints, BOMs, routers, work instructions) for new and existing products, ensuring alignment with design intent.

♦ Drive margin enhancement through design optimization, material selection, and manufacturing process cost reductions.

♦ Work in concert with Sales, Production, and Quality to ensure products and processes are designed as efficiently as possible. Lead cross-functional design reviews.

♦ Develop and maintain project schedules for new product development and engineering change efforts. Project management experience required.

♦ Manage engineering personnel, both design and manufacturing, to ensure products are engineered correctly, cost-effectively, and delivered on time to Champion GSE promise dates and quality requirements.

♦ Promote and maintain awareness and compliance of EH&S in accordance with best practice and legal requirements.

♦ Administer employee performance reviews.

♦ Enforce and adhere to company policies and procedures per the Quality Management System, Safety Manual, and Employee Handbook.

Job Qualifications

Education

¨   Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

¨  10+ years minimum experience in product design engineering, with progressive responsibility in technical leadership or engineering management

¨      Proficiency in NX or CATIA required; strong working knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5)

¨      Experience designing to aerospace and/or military standards required (MIL-STD, AS9100)

¨      Familiarity with European design standards beneficial

¨      Familiarity with ISO 9001/AS9100 Quality systems required

¨      Experience managing or collaborating closely with manufacturing engineering functions strongly preferred

¨      Strong command of design engineering fundamentals: tolerance analysis, materials selection, DFM/DFA, and design-for-cost principles.

¨      Knowledge of Quality tools.

¨      Strong interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.

¨      Must possess analytical thinking and reasoning skills and attention to detail.

¨      Must be able to set and maintain schedules across concurrent design and production projects.

¨      Able to direct manufacturing engineers on lean processes, workflow, and routings, translating design intent into production requirements.
