Business Job Title: Senior Manufacturing Engineer

Job Summary:

Manage process development of assigned programs through use of applicable Manufacturing Engineering principles and practices for Safety, Quality, Productivity, and Continuous Improvement. Identify opportunities or longstanding issues in existing processes, equipment, systems, and procedures and develop viable solutions. Manage multiple projects of varying sizes and complexities. Lead cross-functional teams to address opportunities or issues and implement robust solutions. Utilize projects as development opportunities for self and other team members when possible.

Job Responsibilities:

• Research, select, develop, and define the methods and processes used in developing breakthrough products, processes and equipment that have the lowest product costs for value delivered, as compared to the global market.
• Perform process & equipment design and development including verification testing.
• Execute moderate to complex projects utilizing project management principles including:
  • Calculate cost savings and justifications for Capital Equipment purchases.
  • Develop project objectives by reviewing project proposals with appropriate teams.
  • Identify required project phases, roles, responsibilities, and tasks
  • Determine project specifications
  • Determine and maintain appropriate project schedules
  • Develop project risk registries, manage and mitigate identified risks
  • Confirm manufacturing methods by designing and conducting tests
  • Prepare and communicate project status reports
• Support Production by investigating and resolving complex operational issues by determining root cause(s) and advising corrective and preventive actions by using different Problem-solving solutions like (but not limited to) Toyota 8 steps problem solving, 5 why's, Pareto, FMEA, Tree Fault analysis diagram. Use advanced knowledge and relationship management to influence outcomes.
• Develop optimization programs to increase up time in automated equipment and increase OEE.
• Experience in standard work and documentation processes for Manufacturing processes, Autonomous maintenance, Preventive Maintenance, troubleshooting and fault recovery of automated equipment.
• Presents complex concepts and information to senior leadership.
• Use data to set improvement targets and verify effectiveness of solutions.
• Participate in the development of other engineers, technicians, interns and/or co-ops formally and informally.
• Develop own capabilities by participating in formal and informal training and coaching; Maintain an understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, meeting with other professionals and reviewing industry media.
• Guide operational leaders and team members in areas of expertise, using advanced knowledge. May provide guidance to Co-ops and/or Interns.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor of Science degree in technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
• Six plus years of production support and development experience with a proven track record.
• Extensive knowledge in Industrial Engineering skills including time study, standards development, plant layout, and ergonomics required. Serves as a source of knowledge in multiple areas.
• Ability to prepare capital appropriation requests. Ability to manage implementation project including purchase, installation, and training of staff for capital assets requested.
• Able to rapidly gather meaningful information, assess risks in making decisions and able to act based on team input and data despite possible gaps in situational understanding. Understands and assesses business impact of a decision.
• Experience guiding cross-functional teams in Lean Manufacturing, PFMEA, and Kaizen principles and practices to improve products or processes is required.
• Experience evaluating manual movements, safety incident reports, and occupational therapist recommendations to develop and implement ergonomic and safety improvements.
• Experience in air movement and/or ventilation and/or appliance manufacture is desired.
• Experience with sheet metal fabrication, forming and welding, and paint application practices desired.
• Experience related to metal fabrication equipment, its use, and safety requirements desired.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project). Experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD is desired.
• Experience with manual and automated high-volume assembly with emphasis on process flow and continuous improvement desired.
• Desired experience in the following manufacturing Engineering and Quality Functions:
  • Multi-site Product Launch and Production
  • OEM product Launch and Production
  • Statistical Process Control Practices
  • Product and Process Cost Reduction
  • Kaizen or Continuous Improvement Methodologies
  • Process flow and material handling practices
  • ISO 9001
  • Familiarity with PLC's and industrial controls.
• Effective communications through verbal, written and electronic means.
• Ability to present complex information to technicians, peers and leadership
• Ability to articulate lean and/or technical strategy and provide business case to support approach.
• Ability to work collaboratively and closely with others in a team environment.

Physical Requirements:

• Up to 15% travel, including international.
