DESCRIPTION OF WORK This position leads the review of mining-related permit applications and evaluates geologic, hydrologic, and environmental data to ensure responsible mining operations. It involves coordinating field surveys, analyzing technical information, and working with applicants and partner agencies. As a Licensed Professional Geologist, you will perform the following duties: Permit Review: Evaluate mining and NPDES applications and prepare technical recommendations and decisions Field Investigation: Conduct site surveys and coordinate findings with engineering and inspection staff Impact Analysis: Assess geologic and hydrologic data to determine effects on water resources and develop solutions Technical Evaluation: Study site stratigraphy, structure, and geochemistry to support complex permit determinations Water Protection: Review groundwater and surface water data to safeguard water supplies and assess replacement needs Interested in learning more? Work Schedule and Additional Information Full-time employment Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in New Stanton. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $70,592 (before taxes). Required Experience, Training & Eligibility QUALIFICATIONS Special Requirements This position requires the possession of an active license as a professional geologist issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists. This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent. Other Requirements PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
