Job Description and Duties

PARK MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT – ORANGE COAST DISTRICT / SOUTH SECTOR / SAN CLEMENTE STATE BEACH

This classification is subject to the Post and Bid process. Applications from a certification list, transfer change in class, reinstatement, re-employment, and training and development assignment candidates will be accepted for this position but consistent with the MOU/Bargaining Agreement BU12/13 contract cannot be acted upon unless the Post & Bid process does not result in a hire.

The incumbents work schedule is Sunday – Thursday from 7:00AM to 3:30PM. The reporting location for this position is the San Clemente State Beach Maintenance Shop located within the South Sector of the Orange Coast District; however, this position may be required to work at the other Park Units throughout the South Sector. This position will work under supervision of the Park Maintenance Supervisor.

The Park Maintenance Assistant will do routine cleanup and unskilled maintenance; performs various housekeeping, groundskeeping and minor maintenance tasks; answers routine questions from the public as necessary; completes miscellaneous reports; leads and trains less experienced maintenance personnel in housekeeping and minor grounds work. May lead a crew of seasonal employees doing cleanup and other unskilled work during peak seasons.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment. Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license is required. Typical work activities involve frequent periods of bending, stooping and lifting. May have extensive exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises. May work in remote locations. May have exposure to vegetation known to cause skin irritation. May require heavy physical work including lifting, pushing or pulling.
