Clinical Nurse

Job Summary

Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Essential Duties

Education

Participates in identifying and addressing personal learning needs.
Attends education programs based on identified learning needs.
Utilizes appropriate patient education materials relevant to the patient population with assistance.
Assesses readiness to learn of the patient, family, and caregivers.
Evaluates the developmental level of the patient and factors impacting their ability to learn.

Evaluation of Care

Identifies expected patient outcomes.
Seeks guidance as needed to revise the plan of care.
Engages in discussions with the interdisciplinary team to evaluate patient care.
Communicates relevant information to ensure continuity of care.

Implementation

Demonstrates competence in the care of patients with complex problems, addressing physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects of care.
Performs bedside point of care testing as required for the patient care plan.
Utilizes healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures in delivering care.
Organizes and prioritizes care according to patient and family needs.
Consults with appropriate resources in a timely manner regarding patients with complex care issues or high discharge planning needs.

Leadership

With assistance, develops goals for professional growth or minimizing limitations.
Achieves goals and objectives within identified time frames or renegotiates with supervisor as necessary.
Displays knowledge about activities facilitating intra- and interdepartmental collaboration.
Participates in the development and achievement of unit goals and performance improvement activities.
Effectively utilizes communication systems and promotes cost-effective care.
Provides constructive feedback to colleagues.
Stays informed about public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting the healthcare environment.
Fosters a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment for all.

Patient Assessment

Recognizes and analyzes data from complex situations to determine care priorities.
Addresses appropriate physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs.
Synthesizes assessment data into meaningful insights before communicating with others.
Assesses and anticipates discharge needs for individual patients and families.
Establishes relationships with families to empower them to advocate for the patient and their own needs.

Planning

Collaborates with patients and families to prepare or update the care plan.
Utilizes available multidisciplinary resources in planning care.
Begins to leverage a full range of communication methods to convey planning.
Identifies and addresses cultural and ethnic issues when planning patient care.
Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex issues.

Research

Reads relevant journals containing studies or articles applicable to practice.
Shares ideas and questions with staff for assessment of applicability.

Required Skills & Experience

Minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience.
At least two (2) years of MedSurge/Tele experience.
Previous neuro experience is required.
Remote Tele experience is highly preferred.

Education

Required: Nursing Diploma or ADN/ASN from an accredited school of nursing.
Preferred: BSN or MSN from an accredited school of nursing.

Required Certifications & Licensure

Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina.
Basic Life Support (BLS)
