Overview Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center, located in Clarksburg, West Virginia, serves a veteran population of approximately 70,000 in north central West Virginia and adjacent counties in Maryland, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Inpatient services include acute medicine, surgery, acute psychiatry, Substance Abuse Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (SARRTP), PTSD Residential Rehabilitation Program (PRRP), Psychosocial Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (PRRTP) and nursing home care. Responsibilities Urology consultation for inpatients and outpatients. Evaluate and treat Urology emergencies in the Emergency Department, Outpatient clinic, inpatient ward, ICU, and the Operating Room. Provide professional services requiring full range of inpatient and outpatient Urology procedures. Facilitate patient access to medical care by recommending appropriate referrals to other health care providers in accordance with applicable policies and regulations. Responsible for being able to admit, work‑up and treat either surgical or medical patients presenting with illness or injuries of the genitourinary systems. Evaluate the patient to assess any changes in the physical status, lab values and vital signs of the patient prior to surgery. Appropriate notes are written in the patient’s medical records, times, dates and signed. Ability to perform minor and major surgical procedures. Responsible for providing the patient with risks, benefits and alternative treatments and securing the informed consent of the patient/family needed before conducting invasive procedures. Responsible for regular postoperative follow‑up, patient teaching and wound care upon discharge orders in the chart in a timely manner. Perform emergency surgical procedures as needed. Complete all electronic, clinical, daily charting and documentation required by the Medical Center in a timely manner. Participate in all surgical quality/performance improvement initiatives. Recruitment Incentive (Sign‑on Bonus): Authorized Performance Pay: Up to 15k annually Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment): This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50‑55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long‑term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full‑time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Work Schedule Monday thru Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. However, subject to change depending on the needs of the Medical Center. On‑call responsibilities as required. Contract Buy‑Out Program: This position may be eligible for the Physician / Provider Contract Buy Out Program (CBOP), which authorizes VHA to buy‑out service contracts (Locum agreements, loan repayments, sign‑on bonus contracts, Physician‑owned practices) in exchange for employment at certain rural or highly rural facilities for a period of obligated service (minimum 4 years).
