Because Amex Tech is powered by our technology, our culture, and our colleagues.Software Engineer II designs, develops, tests, and debugs software applications, contributes to software builds, completes code reviews and automated testing to maintain high-quality standards with guidance, supports and monitors software across environments, and adheres to security and regulatory best practices.ResponsibilitiesSupervises and mentors Software Engineers and cross-functional team of colleagues in specific tasks or projects, fostering their professional growth and ensuring adherence to best practicesProvides mentorship and technical leadership to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvementLeads the entire lifecycle of software applications and systems, ensuring high-quality delivery from inception to deploymentDirects the technical aspects of projects, ensuring scalability, performance, and reliabilityReviews code for accuracy, quality, and adherence to best practices, offering constructive feedbackEstablishes and enforces coding standards, development methodologies, and best practices within the teamIdentifies and resolves performance bottlenecks, ensuring optimal application performanceFacilitate collaboration with cross-functional teams to support changes and implementations, ensuring alignment with organizational objectivesCollaborates and co-creates effectively with teams in product and the business to align technology initiatives with business objectivesQualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and/or comparable experience; advanced degree preferredSignificant hands-on experience in application architecture / design, software development, and testing, preferably in an Agile environment within a professional environment.Significant hands-on experience and knowledge of Public Cloud and related technologies (AWS -EKS, AWS-Lambdas, AWS-AuroraDB, AWS Managed Services GCP, Kubernetes).12+ years of proven experience using Java, Ab Initio, React, Spring, Spark, Kafka, Postgres, Ignite, Restful APIs, In-Memory Computing, IntelliJ, Couchbase, OpenSearch. Proficiency in front-end technologies including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript/TypeScript, and component-based architectureExperience designing, and building AI-powered and Agentic AI solutions, creating Agent Skills, including LLM-based applications, AI agents, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), prompt engineering, orchestration frameworks, vector databases, and AI service integrations.Hands-on experience with full stack development using Node.js, Java, Python, or similar backend technologiesExperience building responsive, user-friendly web applications with modern UI frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.jsExperience with all aspects of DevOps with ability to customize the pipeline based on product needsStrong engineering and professional leadership skills.Demonstrated ability to lead, partner, and collaborate multi-functionally across many engineering teams.Depending on factors such as business unit requirements, the nature of the position, cost and applicable laws, American Express may provide visa sponsorship for certain positions.About the TeamAt American Express, our culture is built on a 175-year history of innovation, shared values and Leadership Behaviors, and an unwavering commitment to back our customers, communities, and colleagues.
