Job CaptainStudio AR&D Architects is a Los Angeles based architecture firm that offers a creative and collaborative work environment with a growing portfolio of work that seeks to be both poetic and meaningful in every detail. Currently, we are seeking a Job Captain who can help contribute to the creative work coming from Studio AR&D Architects. A Job Captain will have a thorough understanding of construction documents in addition to retaining and understanding of all of the parties involved and the delivery of the work that they are responsible for. A Job Captain will have the responsibility of overseeing the actual creation of the drawings and construction documents of the project. A Job Captain shall have the technical and leadership abilities to plan, organize, and manage efforts of a production team to produce high quality construction documents within an allotted time and budget. The selected candidate shall benefit from a dynamic work environment and challenging project tasks and responsibilities.General Notes and Description:Job Captain shall have a minimum of 2 years experience in this role/title (Job Captain) Preferably 2-5 years experiencePreferable experience with projects similar to oursJob Captain will be required to communicate with clients and be responsible for managing a team and multiple projectsJob Captain shall demonstrate the ability to work within a dynamic and challenging work environment, managing multiple and ever-changing project tasks and responsibilitiesJob Captain will have a thorough understanding of all construction documents (technical knowledge and ability) In addition to procuring, retaining, and understanding of all of the parties involved and the delivery of the work that they (Architect, Owner, consultants, contractor) are responsible for.Job Captain will have the responsibility of both creating (themselves) as well as overseeing of others (team members) the actual creation of the drawings and construction documents of the projectJob Captain shall have the technical and leadership abilities to plan, organize, and manage efforts of a production team to produce high quality construction documents within an allotted time and budget. Guiding the production team through the project timeline and consistently delivering and meeting deadlines.Responsibilities:Take direction from, and provide support and assistance to Project Managers and Managing Principal on various high-end residential projectsProduce, manage, and coordinate construction documentation setsComplete technical CAD drawings and tasks as directed in a clear and organized manner consistent with office standardsReport regularly to the Project Manager and Firm PrincipalSchedule subordinates during Monday morning general office scheduling meetingTrack and follow up on communication with team members, consultants, and local municipality staff, as requiredCoordinate architectural design and building systems with engineering consultantsProduce and understand and develop technical drawings and details with Project Manager assistance at timesCreate and organize construction details in a proficient manner, checking your own work (and subordinates work) against code, acceptable means and methods, office standardsOrganize drawing sets and oversee the completing of submittals to various municipalitiesPerform filing, code, and zoning analyses for multiple municipalities and related zoning ordinancesSurvey and document existing conditions in the fieldResearch construction materials and systemsGeneral office and project duties as required to the firm and positionTrack all consultant proposal, costs, and payment requests and "approve" or "reject" consultant invoices or requests for paymentRequirements:Bachelor's or Masters Degree in ArchitectureBetween 2-6 years of the position of Job Captain currently or previouslyStrong organizational skills: As it relates to: themselves and their own work tasksthe communication with other disciplines, team members, and the ability to create and access information within construction documentscommunication with clientsincluding practicing good judgement on time management skills for sameStrong Portfolio: That clearly demonstrates the requirements for this positionDetail orientedExperience in design and detailing projects through construction documentation and construction administrationAbility to consistently meet deadlines and deliverSelf motivated, self-starter, always striving to grow in their profession in both learning and taking on more responsibilityStrong verbal and written communication skillsStrong interest in highly detailed, modern & contemporary architectureMust be proficient in AutoCADStrong knowledge of Sketchup, Lumion and other related softwareStrong knowledge of Bluebeam, including tools and shortcuts required for note taking, detailing, and drawing during Owner and Contractor meetingsProvide 3 professional referencesPersonal Qualities:Desire to produce meaningful work, passionate about the design work and the poetics of the spacesIndependent with the ability to work in a team environmentAbility to be openminded, take-in different ideas and encourage teamworkDesire to constantly self-educate and be hands-onDesire to advance and grow the office and its cultureConfidence in their abilities enough to be able to make suggestions to team members, clients, contractorsAbility to bring creative solutions to our design and detailing workMust be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
