Assistant City Veterinarian (Part-Time)

The City of Henderson announces an examination to create a consideration for hire list and to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Assistant City Veterinarian (Part-Time) in the Department of Community Development and Services. The list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to one (1) year. Under general supervision of the City Veterinarian, provides licensed medical, surgical, and other services dealing with the prevention, treatment, and control of diseases and injuries for domesticated and wild animals; and performs related duties as assigned.

Position Details:

• Wage range: $54.53 - $83.14/hr; wage placement for non-represented positions is based on a comprehensive compensation review and takes into consideration the candidate's qualifications as well as internal equity*
• This is a part-time, at-will position
• This position requires enrollment in the City's Alternate Retirement Systems (ARS)
• This position is not eligible for any health insurance, or retirement benefits under the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) of Nevada, or pay increases
• This position will average approximately 19 hours per week, though the hours may fluctuate based on the departmental staffing needs
• May be required to work an alternative or flexible work schedule, outside of normal business hours, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or extended hours
• The physical work location is the Henderson Animal Protection Facility located at 300 E Galleria Drive, Henderson, NV, 89011
• Incumbent will be working in close contact with a variety of animals, including birds, cats, dogs, rabbits, reptiles, etc. which also includes various, strong odors and loud sound

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduation from a veterinary school with a doctor's degree in veterinary medicine
• Two (2) years of experience as a practicing small animal veterinarian
• Note: An equivalent combination of related education, experience, and training may be considered
• Must possess a License to Practice Veterinary Medicine from the Nevada State Board of Veterinary Examiners or from a similar agency of another state, at the time of application
• Must possess a License to Practice Veterinary Medicine from the Nevada State Board of Veterinary Examiners or obtain prior to effective date of employment
• Must possess a valid Nevada Driver's License at time of appointment and maintain a satisfactory driving record
• All required licenses and certificates, as mandated by local, state, and federal laws, or as required herein, must be obtained and maintained as a condition of continued employment and at the incumbents' expense
