Nutritionist II - Maternity RD (10340)

Job Summary To assess the nutritional status of prenatal patients and develop a plan of care that will meet their nutritional needs and result in an optimal pregnancy outcome. Responsibilities Certify patients for WIC if eligibility criteria are met. Document assessments and care plans in the Crossroads system and provide feedback. Assign food packages as needed to WIC clients. Collect and evaluate anthropometric, biochemical, clinical, dietary, and eco‑social data to assess the nutritional status of all maternity clinic prenatal patients. Develop individualized nutrition care plans and assist patients in understanding and implementing them through counseling, discussion, audiovisual tools, and printed educational materials. Provide ongoing follow‑up to monitor progress, ensure compliance, and adjust care plans as needed. Reassess and modify care plans as patients’ conditions or needs change. Document all assessments, care plans, interventions, and patient responses in the electronic medical record. Develop therapeutic nutrition care plans for high‑risk prenatal patients and continually reassess and modify them as risk factors change. Monitor and document patients’ responses to care plans, providing appropriate feedback to support adherence and improved pregnancy outcomes. Participate in monthly WIC and maternity staff meetings to coordinate nutrition procedures, goals, and patient care plans with the interdisciplinary team, including physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and social workers. Present updated nutrition information that may be applied in maternal care. Assist as needed in the event of a disaster. Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Deputy Director, or Health Director. Qualifications Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetics Registration. Master’s degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or Nutrition, along with two years of nutrition experience. Graduation from a Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education‑approved didactic program in dietetics, with two years of nutrition experience. Dietetic Technician, Registered, with a Bachelor’s degree in any subject area from an accredited four‑year college or university and two years of nutrition experience. Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or Community Nutrition from an accredited four‑year college or university and two years of nutrition experience. Transcript required. Registered Dietitian (RD) credential required to meet program requirements. Subject to State‑based investigation criminal history record check prior to hire (G.S. 153A‑94.2(b)). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Specialized knowledge in the principles and application of nutrition and dietetics to improve health outcomes. Knowledge of relevant medical terminology and skill in documenting in the medical record. A wide knowledge of nutrition, especially developmental and prenatal nutrition, is necessary.
