SUMMARY: To assist special education students with success in school and progress toward meeting educational goals in accordance with Article 7.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Evaluate students referred for physical therapy assessments and determine eligibility for physical therapy as a related service in accordance with Article 7.
2. Attend initial conferences and report evaluation findings, discuss concerns with parents and teachers, and determine service provisions.
3. Provide services directly to students within the school setting as directed by the student's IEP.
4. Provide consultation to teachers regarding students' IEP services in public and non-public school settings as directed by student's IEP.
5. Attend annual/IEP revision conferences and report on current progress and skill level, assist with developing new goals as needed, and determine service provisions.
6. Determine equipment needs for positioning and mobility at school.
7. Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with school personnel, students and parents.
8. Promote good public relations for the School Corporation and community.
9. Teach by example by exemplifying good moral conduct.
10. Demonstrates professional growth.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Degree in Physical Therapy

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Indiana Physical Therapy License

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, correspondences, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to apply general mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community, and ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
