About Us
Uptown Grille is a sports bar, restaurant, live music venue and event space in Commerce Township. We’re known for great food and drinks, live bands every week, game-day crowds, dancing and private parties. We’re open until 2 AM, so the energy runs from dinner service straight into a busy late-night crowd.
The Role
The Front of House Manager runs the guest side of the business. You’ll lead servers, bartenders, hosts, bussers and security, keep the floor running smoothly from dinner rush to last call, and make sure every guest leaves wanting to come back. This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives in a high-volume, high-energy setting and is comfortable running late-night shifts.
What You’ll Do
- Lead daily front of house operations across the dining room, bar, patio and event areas.
- Hire, train, schedule and coach FOH staff, and build a team that delivers fast, friendly service.
- Manage the shift from opening through 2 AM close, including late-night crowd flow and closing procedures.
- Coordinate with the kitchen and bar to keep ticket times and drink service on pace during peak hours.
- Oversee live music nights, game days and special events, including setup, staffing, cover charges and band coordination.
- Work with the events team on private parties, holiday brunches and large group bookings.
- Enforce responsible alcohol service, ID checks and Michigan liquor laws, and keep the venue safe after dark.
- Handle guest concerns calmly and turn problems into good experiences.
- Manage cash handling, POS (SpotOn), nightly reports, comps and voids.
- Control labor costs and FOH expenses, and help hit sales targets.
- Keep the restaurant clean, organized and up to health and safety standards.
What We’re Looking For
- 2+ years of restaurant or bar management experience, ideally in a high-volume, sports bar or nightlife setting.
- Available to work nights, weekends and holidays, including regular closes at 2 AM.
- Strong leadership skills: you set the tone and your team follows.
- Calm under pressure on packed nights.
- Experience with scheduling, inventory and POS systems (SpotOn a plus).
- Michigan TIPS or ServSafe Alcohol certification, or willingness to get certified.
- ServSafe Food Handler or Manager certification preferred.
- Must be 21 or older.
