Substitute School Bus DriverThe opportunity to be trained as a School Bus DriverKnowledge of: Motor vehicle regulations and safe driving practices. Ability to: Maintain order under difficult circumstances Understand and follow verbal and written instructions Maintain good public relations Keep recordsLicenses: Possession of a valid California driver's license Training: The State of California requires twenty hours of classroom and behind-the-wheel training for school bus drivers. Your training hours will be approximately 6 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. with a thirty-minute lunch break. Training hours may vary. Upon completion of training, the candidate will take written and performance tests with the Highway Patrol. Upon certification, the candidate will be placed in the classification of School Bus Driver as follows: 1. Substitute pool - $22.32/hour 2. Substitutes then move to Extra Board Drivers as positions are available. You are then guaranteed a minimum of 20 hours a week with benefits. 3. As positions vacate, Extra Board Drivers move into regular routes which ensures a minimum of 25 hours a week with benefits.Selection Procedure: Candidates must pass each part of the selection process which consists of the following: 1. Candidate's application package, which must include: Supplemental Questionnaire 10-year DMV printout (H-6) 10 Year Work History K-4 DMV Record Incomplete applications will not be considered. Qualified applicants will be invited to an orientation. Applicants who attend the orientation will have an opportunity to sign up for an interview. 3. Prior to the interview time, each applicant will take a written test (similar to a DMV Class C test), sit behind the wheel of the bus, and evacuate through the rear emergency exit. Candidates successful in the above areas will proceed to the interview portion of the examination.Definition: Under general supervision, operates a school vehicle in transporting children to and from school and on special trips; and performs related work as required.Example of Duties:Develops the most efficient route for transportation of assigned studentsDrives bus along route, stops and designated points to pick up or discharge studentsMaintains order and enforces rulesReports and cites for disciplinary action in cases of extreme or repeated unrulinessReports incidentsFiles accident reports when necessaryMakes routine safety checks on vehicleReports problems or equipment malfunctioningMaintains records of all tripsKeeps bus cleanDesirable Qualifications:Training and Experience: NoneKnowledge of: Motor vehicle regulations and special codes and regulations related to school buses Safe driving practicesSkills in: Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with othersAbility to: Maintain order under difficult circumstances Understand and follow verbal and written instructions Keep records Maintain good public relationsLicenses and Certificates: Possession of a valid California Class B driver's license Class A Bus Driver's Certificate issued by the California Highway
