Pine Ridge is a census-designated place and the most populous community in Oglala Lakota County, South Dakota. It is the tribal headquarters of the Oglala Sioux Tribe on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The community was named for the pine trees on the ridge surrounding the town site.

Overview

We are currently seeking RNs with Med/Surg experience to work 13-week assignments at the Pine Ridge Indian Hospital on the inpatient unit (acute care). Regular schedule will be 80 hours/2 weeks (rotating shifts).

Requirements (Include But Are Not Limited)

• Assess the biophysical, psychosocial, emotional, educational, spiritual, and cultural needs of all emergency medical, surgical, pediatric patients in accordance with established patient care standards. Plan nursing care for patients utilizing the nursing process and in accordance with established unit standards.
• Initiate treatments, medications, emergency, and resuscitative measures based on appropriate utilization of standing orders and unit protocols. Administer therapeutic and emergency measures as prescribed by the provider, such as medications, treatments, and procedures tailored to both the obstetrical and neonatal patients utilizing scientific knowledge including principles of safety and infection control. Document observations, nursing interventions, therapeutic measures administered, and patient response to treatment and re-evaluation of nursing care according to unit standards.
• Operate specialized equipment such as cardiac monitors, defibrillators, pulse oximeters, infusion pumps, etc. Maintain equipment checklists per unit protocol.
• Consult with primary care providers and other healthcare professionals on patients and coordinate diagnostic and therapeutic regimens for patients.
• Provides patient and family education, which include counseling and assisting the patient/family to understand and accept implications of care, diagnosis, and treatment.

Qualifications

• Must have three (3) years of nursing experience in med-surgical nursing specialty.
• Must possess a current, valid, unrestricted nursing license in a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) as approved by the American Heart Association (AHA) is mandatory.
