Job Description

The Commissioning Technician is responsible for the startup, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and performance verification of automated conveyor and material handling systems. This role supports the installation and commissioning of conveyor controls, PLCs, HMIs, motor control systems, VFDs, sensors, and field devices while ensuring systems operate safely and according to design specifications.

Responsibilities

• Execute commissioning activities for conveyor and automated material handling systems.
• Verify equipment installation against electrical drawings, schematics, and manufacturer specifications.
• Perform pre-startup inspections, I/O verification, point-to-point checks, and system readiness assessments.
• Document commissioning activities, test results, deficiencies, and corrective actions.
• Assist with site acceptance testing (SAT) and customer turnover activities.
• Diagnose and resolve electrical, controls, PLC, HMI, and network communication issues.
• Troubleshoot conveyor systems including motors, VFDs, photo eyes, encoders, scanners, sortation equipment, and safety devices.
• Analyze PLC logic, fault codes, alarms, and system diagnostics to identify root causes.
• Utilize software diagnostic tools to monitor system performance and optimize functionality.
• Support production ramp-up and resolve startup issues under aggressive project schedules.
• Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to improve system reliability.
• Upload, download, and troubleshoot PLC programs using Studio 5000.
• Configure and support CompactLogix and other automation platforms.
• Troubleshoot and support Easy Roll systems using Connected Components Workbench (CCW).
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and support Factory Linx software integration and communications.
• Verify proper operation of HMIs, industrial networks, and data collection systems.
• Support Ethernet/IP device communication and network troubleshooting.

Essential Skills

• Strong controls and automation experience.
• Advanced troubleshooting skills.
• Hands-on experience with Rockwell Automation platforms, including Studio 5000, Easy Roll (CCW), and Factory Linx.
• Experience in commissioning and startup activities.
• Ability to diagnose and resolve electrical and controls issues.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with conveyor systems including motors, VFDs, photo eyes, encoders, scanners, sortation equipment, and safety devices.
• Experience in performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.

Work Environment

Work primarily onsite at fulfillment centers, using advanced technologies and equipment in a fast-paced environment. Dress code is casual, aligned with a hands-on technical role.

This is a Contract position based out of Houston, TX.

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $60.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
