Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week | Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. | On-call hours as assigned

The Knox County Board of Commissioners is seeking a dependable, skilled, and service-oriented Facilities Technician to join our Facilities Maintenance team.

This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in keeping buildings and equipment in good working order, and can move comfortably from preventative maintenance and inspections to troubleshooting and repairs. No two days will necessarily look the same.

Working under the supervision of the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Technician helps maintain County buildings, grounds, equipment, and related systems. The position performs routine inspections, preventative maintenance, repairs, renovations and improvements while helping ensure County facilities remain safe, functional, and well maintained.
Essential Functions

• Conducting routine inspections of County buildings and facilities to identify maintenance and repair needs.
• Performing preventative maintenance and completing repairs to buildings, grounds, equipment, and related systems.
• Assisting with building and grounds alterations, renovations, construction, and improvement projects.
• Troubleshooting faulty conditions involving equipment, facilities, and grounds and completing appropriate repairs.
• Working with the Facilities Manager to evaluate maintenance needs, determine the scope of work, and assist in preparing cost estimates when needed.
• Maintaining inventories of tools, chemicals, equipment, custodial materials, and other supplies.
• Safely operating hand tools, power tools, motor vehicles, and other maintenance equipment.
• Using appropriate personal protective equipment and following applicable safety procedures.
• Assisting with custodial duties when necessary.
• Communicating professionally with County employees, contractors, vendors, members of the public, and other internal and external customers.
• Performing other related duties as assigned.

Job Standards

• A high school diploma or equivalent.
• A minimum of two years of facilities maintenance experience.
• Possess a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
• Meet and maintain the qualifications required to drive on County business throughout employment.
• Be able to successfully complete a physical examination and extensive criminal background check.
• Be available to work a flexible schedule, including on-call hours as required.
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

Supplemental Information
This is an active, hands-on position that involves work both indoors and outdoors. Employees may occasionally work in changing weather conditions, around loud noises or chemicals, and during unpredictable hours.

The position requires standing, walking, climbing, bending, stretching, pulling, grasping, and performing tasks requiring manual dexterity. Employees must be able to lift up to 50 pounds independently and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
