Description: The unit consists of 20 monitored private beds. Nurse-patient ratios range from 1:1 to 2:1, depending on patient acuity. Common patient populations include post-open heart surgical patients, such as CABG, valve replacements, and other cardiovascular procedures. Care for patients experiencing STEMI, unstable angina, and cardiogenic shock is provided. We also manage ventilated patients and overflow patients from other ICUs. Experience with specialized equipment such as IABPs, Impellas, and ECMO is expected. RNs are required to titrate multiple drips including dopamine, levophed, and insulin. Charge nurses and house supervisors are present on all shifts and take assignments as needed. Patient care techs support the nursing staff, with varying ratios based on staffing. Respiratory therapists are available 24/7. RNs are expected to read and interpret cardiac strips and work collaboratively with monitor techs. Shifts are not self-scheduled and do not allow for block scheduling. RNs must work every other weekend and every other holiday. Floating to other levels of care is required, and travelers must take a full team. Scrub colors are not specified, but attire must be appropriate and in good condition. The ideal candidate should be proficient in all cardiovascular ICU components, particularly with complex patients requiring advanced monitoring and multiple interventions. Cancellation policy allows for client cancellations up to 12 hours every 13 weeks.
