Deputy District Attorney III/IV - District Court **$7500 Sign On Incentive**

Deputy District Attorney III/IV - District Court $7,500 sign-on incentive provided for new employees hired into this position. The incentive is paid in three installments over the first year: one-third on the first paycheck, one-third at six months, and one-third at twelve months. New county employees only; current county employees are not eligible. Salary Ranges Deputy DA III: $102,323.00 - $163,451.08 per year Deputy DA IV: $112,555.04 - $179,796.24 per year Key Responsibilities Review and file felony charges, evaluate evidence, determine appropriate charges, prepare filing documents, provide discovery, and ensure victim notifications. Advise and support law enforcement on criminal law issues, warrant requirements, investigative questions, and case development. Assess defendants and case readiness, including reviewing criminal history, evaluating bond considerations, identifying witnesses, and preparing victims and witnesses for hearings and trial. Represent the prosecution at hearings, including initial advisements, bond hearings, preliminary hearings, arraignments; establish probable cause and manage case scheduling. Manage plea negotiations, prepare plea paperwork, communicate plea offers, and present factual bases for court acceptance. Litigate felony cases at trial, including voir dire, opening statements, direct/cross examinations, objections, evidentiary presentation, jury instructions, and closing arguments. Research, draft, and argue motions and legal briefs for both prosecution-initiated and defense-initiated motions. Provide on-call legal guidance for law enforcement after hours, review and coordinate warrant approvals, and respond to crime scenes when needed. Prepare case-related correspondence, including exculpatory disclosures and requests for additional investigation. Participate in training and community outreach, including attending required CLEs, delivering internal trainings, and presenting to schools or community groups. Qualifications Graduation from law school (Rule 205.1 of the Colorado Rules of Civil Procedure) and current license to practice law in the State of Colorado. 8+ years of litigation experience (minimum for Deputy DA III); 12+ years for Deputy DA IV. Extensive knowledge of criminal procedure, rules of evidence, and state criminal statutes; ability to apply these in docket, hearing, preliminary hearing, and trial settings. Strong analytical and advocacy skills; ability to assess case strengths, weaknesses, aggravators, and mitigating factors to determine just and ethical dispositions. Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to present legal arguments clearly to diverse audiences. Ability to work effectively with superiors, co-workers, defense counsel, victims, judges, court staff, police officers, witnesses, and the public. Ability to react quickly and appropriately in court to defense objections, oral motions, inquiries, and rulings. Strong written and oral communication capabilities. Pre-Employment Additional Requirements Pass pre-employment testing, including a motor vehicle record (MVR) and background check. Possession of a valid Class R Colorado Driver’s License or ability to obtain one within two weeks of appointment.
