Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity – Health & Life Sciences Associate Attorney

Direct Counsel is seeking a Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity – Health & Life Sciences Associate Attorney to join a prestigious Am Law firm in Washington, D.C.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an attorney with 3-5 years of experience in privacy, technology, and regulatory counseling to join a nationally recognized Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity practice. The team advises clients across the health and life sciences sector, including pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers, healthcare providers, insurers, technology companies, academic medical centers, research organizations, and laboratories on complex privacy, data governance, and regulatory compliance matters.

Responsibilities

• Advise clients on compliance with HIPAA, GINA, Part 2 regulations, state health privacy laws, consumer health data privacy laws, and emerging AI regulations.

• Develop and enhance privacy compliance programs, including governance frameworks, policies, procedures, risk assessments, notices, consents, and compliance documentation.

• Counsel clients on privacy implications relating to data collection, use, sharing, retention, and cross-border data transfers.

• Draft and negotiate privacy-related agreements, including Business Associate Agreements (BAAs), data processing agreements, data use agreements, AI-related agreements, and privacy provisions in research and clinical trial agreements.

• Advise clients on privacy issues arising from product development, clinical research, artificial intelligence, machine learning, commercial transactions, and technology implementation.

• Conduct regulatory analysis regarding data flows, health information, and evolving privacy requirements.

• Manage substantive client workstreams and participate directly in client meetings, presentations, and strategic counseling.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.

• Active membership in, or eligibility for admission to, the District of Columbia Bar .

• 3-5 years of experience in privacy, technology regulatory counseling, or a related practice area.

• Experience supporting privacy compliance in the health and life sciences industry is strongly preferred.

• Strong familiarity with HIPAA, GINA, Part 2 regulations, state health privacy laws, and consumer health data privacy laws.

• Experience drafting and negotiating privacy and data-related agreements.

• Excellent legal research, analytical, drafting, and communication skills.

• Strong academic credentials and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary: $260,000-$365,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
