Community Corrections Officer 2 (Or CCO1 In-Training) - Everett

Community Corrections Officer 2 (CCO2) – or CCO1, In‑training Location: Everett Field Office, 8625 Evergreen Way, Everett, WA 98208. Monthly salary range: CCO1 – $4,603.00 to $6,190.00; CCO2 – $5,610.00 to $7,540.00. Salary depends on qualifications. Minimum starting salary for a CCO1 placement begins at Step G ($5,338.00/monthly). Responsibilities Supervise criminal individuals under community supervision in accordance with Washington State law, Interstate Compact Rules, agency policy, and within prescribed timeframes. Conduct investigations, searches, issue warrants, and make arrests related to supervisory duties. Complete intake and administer risk, needs, and substance abuse assessments. Manage electronic and hardcopy files, reports, and official documentation. Engage with supervised individuals to promote positive change through communication strategies such as Motivational Interviewing and Principles of Effective Interventions. Enforce supervision conditions and law: Present accurate written documentation and oral testimony; recommend sanctions for courts and hearings. Identify, collect, document, process, and maintain evidence and information with proper chain of custody. Exercise sound judgment and follow department policies regarding firearms and safety measures, including wearing a safety vest when armed and conducting supervised contact outside the office. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Required Qualifications – CCO1 Ability to carry and properly use a department‑issued firearm. Unrestricted vehicle operator's license valid in Washington. Willingness and ability to work with individuals with criminal backgrounds and anti‑social behaviors, review graphic materials, and maintain objectivity. Demonstrated ability through college‑level coursework or experience in at least three of the following areas: Written Communication – clear, factual, concise, grammatically correct work. Critical Thinking – evaluate situations, assess risk, form conclusions, and implement decisions. Analytical Reasoning – interpret data, weigh risks, break down issues, and recommend solutions. Conflict Resolution – observe interactions, engage constructively, communicate feedback, and promote positive outcomes. Situational Awareness – remain calm and rational during crises, assess threats, and document details. Problem Solving – identify causes, seek input, assess outcomes, and implement solutions. Organizational Skills – prioritize, plan, minimize distraction, and manage timeframes. Work Independently – learn duties, comply with policies, meet productivity standards, and seek guidance when needed. Flexibility – incorporate new information and support agency changes in law, policy, and procedure. Educational and/or professional experience requirements: High school diploma or GED + at least 4 years of the qualifying experience listed above. Associate or technical degree + 2 years of qualifying experience. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 4 years. Higher education must be from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or CHEA, or an equivalent foreign institution. Demonstrated ability through college‑level coursework or professional work experience in at least three of the following areas: Making field visits. Preparing written correspondence, reports, and/or documents. Assessing cases and making recommendations. Referring people to appropriate resources. Presenting cases in court or hearings. Completing assessments of risk factors. Designing, monitoring, and facilitating treatment plans. Determining and making referrals to resources such as chemical dependency, substance abuse, family counseling, job training, etc. Maintaining official records and tracking supervised individuals' progress and compliance. Assisting supervised individuals who cannot independently access support systems or community resources. Making sound case‑management decisions under stressful conditions and interpreting detailed legal documents accurately. Using computer and software to enter, retrieve, and store data. Managing caseloads with conflicting priorities. Identifying community‑based resources for treatment and programming. Communicating clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, with program participants, agency staff, and external stakeholder organizations. Working independently and in collaboration with stakeholders. Educational and/or professional experience requirements: One year experience as a Community Corrections Officer within the Washington State Department of Corrections. Associate or technical degree + 3 years of qualifying experience. Bachelor's degree + 1 year of qualifying experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 5 years. Special Requirements and Conditions of Employment (All CCO levels) Complete a felony disclosure form and submit to a criminal background check. Complete and pass the psychological screening (Battery Exam and Psychological Interview/Evaluation). Submit to drug testing in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement and agency policy. Successfully complete employee orientation and all mandatory annual, in‑service, and required training. Become familiar with and comply with all department policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements. Successfully complete the Firearms Academy and Control/Impedance Tactics (CIT) training within prescribed timeframes, including: Maintaining eligibility to possess and use a firearm under federal and state laws. Maintaining qualifications per department training standards with department‑issued firearms and Intermediate Force options. Maintaining CIT qualifications. Completing all agency requalification training and an annual criminal history clearance. Benefits Paid vacation: fourteen to twenty‑five days per year, depending on years of service and collective bargaining agreement. Eight hours of paid sick leave per month.
