District Float Nurse

The float nurse is responsible for providing nursing services to students and staff members to maximize health, wellness, and safety in the school community in the absence of, or in addition to, the designated building school nurse.

Essential duties and responsibilities include managing health room visits, assessing and treating health problems, administering medications, responding to emergencies, implementing health strategies, managing special health needs, monitoring for communicable diseases, reviewing health status, assisting with compliance of immunization and communicable disease laws, documenting nursing care, maintaining confidentiality, establishing professional communication, collaborating with school district and community members, participating in professional development activities, and adhering to ethical standards of the nursing profession.

Education and/or experience required include a Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred, a Registered Nurse required, a valid Kansas Registered Nurse License, Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification, and a health and inoculation certificate on file in the Central Office after an employment offer is made.

Skills and abilities include maintaining professionalism, effective communication, detailed report writing, public speaking, document reading, and bilingual communication skills preferred.

Physical demands include the ability to travel in personal or school district vehicle, flexibility regarding scheduling, working conditions, and location of work, and occasional work in noisy and crowded environments with numerous interruptions.
