Shop Service Technician 4 -Heavy Equipment Department: Machine Division (MAC) Employment Type: Full Time Location: Anna Reporting To: Thomas Pfiefer Description Holt CAT in Anna, Texas is looking for an experienced Heavy Equipment-Shop Service Technician. This position is responsible for providing high-quality repair service on heavy equipment in a shop environment, in order to respond to customer needs in a positive, caring, and timely manner and to ensure maximum value for work performed. Must have 3 years experience on heavy construction equipment. Must be able to rebuild transmissions, final drives, and undercarriage components. The hours of the position are Monday-Friday, 7 AM - 4 PM. Our address is 451 E. Outer Loop Road, Anna, Texas 75409. Mid-level position – Generally has more than seven years of experience and/or demonstrated job relevant knowledge/skills. A Level IV Technician has a broad knowledge of the field’s standard and technical concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of standard, complex, and technical tasks; is self-starting and requires minimal supervision; is often a team member on a large project. Essential Functions Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment malfunctions and failures Disassembles and assembles machine components to manufacturer’s specifications through the use of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and any specialized tooling Rebuilds, repairs, reconditions, and maintains equipment and components Demonstrates good customer relations and support; communicates customer needs to shop management Plans and controls cost of repair jobs Completes parts orders and identifies parts for return Provides a significant amount of task and behavior-oriented mentoring, and training to others Maintains all equipment and work areas – keeps in good, clean, and orderly condition Completes all documents associated with repairs in a timely manner Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; e.g., ProTech Technician Training Paths Requires regular and punctual employee attendance Performs other duties as assigned Daily Practices Demonstrate alignment with the company's mission and core business values Collaborate with key internal/external resources Participate in ongoing self-development. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Troubleshoot and perform complex repairs correctly in the shop such as pumps, hydraulic, engine, transmissions, HVAC, and electrical issues and repairs. At least 3 years of field or shop service tech troubleshooting and repair skills of heavy equipment such as dozers, backhoes, front-end loaders, excavators, etc. Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair equipment using electronic and manual equipment to determine failure. Ability to troubleshoot Tier 4 Final Emissions Systems Ability to troubleshoot Exhaust Gas Recirculation Systems Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems - CAT ET / CAT SIS 2.0 Quality control analysis skills - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance and communicate findings Operation and control skills - Controlling operations of equipment or systems Equipment selection skills - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job Ability to operate a conventional forklift and an overhead crane The ability to quickly and repeatedly operate the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects The ability to read, write, and understand information The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences Must have/acquire basic mechanic hand and pneumatic tools (metric/standard) Requirements Education and Experience Seven or more years of diesel-powered heavy equipment repair experience preferred Ability and knowledge to read/use schematics and diagrams experience is preferred High school diploma or equivalent preferred Graduation from a diesel technology program preferred Supervisory Responsibilities None Travel Some travel is expected for this position Physical Requirements Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work Work Environment Regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity Noise level may be loud at times Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high speed rotating equipment Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment Required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places Disclaimer Please note that the above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this classification.
