Responsibilities Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and personal hygiene. Monitor patients’ vital signs and observe for any changes in health or behavior, documenting findings accurately while respecting patient privacy and HIPAA regulations. Support medication administration and manage care plans tailored to individual needs, ensuring compliance with all safety protocols. Operate patient transfer methods such as Hoyer lifts and manual handling techniques to ensure safe mobility. Prepare nutritious meals and assist with meal planning while maintaining cleanliness in food preparation areas. Provide transportation assistance for appointments, errands, or community outings to promote social engagement and independence. Engage residents in meaningful activities that support cognitive function and emotional well-being, including dementia and Alzheimer’s care. Maintain a clean, safe environment by performing routine cleaning tasks and adhering to infection control standards. Communicate effectively with clients, families, and healthcare teams to coordinate care and address individual needs. Respond promptly to emergencies with first aid or CPR when necessary, following established protocols for hospice or home health situations. Experience Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home health environments is highly preferred. Familiarity with patient observation techniques, medication administration, and vital signs monitoring is essential. Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism or intellectual disabilities supports your success in this role. Knowledge of dementia care, memory care strategies, Alzheimer’s support techniques, and resident rights enhances your ability to provide compassionate care. Hands-on experience with patient transfer methods like Hoyer lifts or other mobility aids is advantageous. Certification in first aid and CPR is required; additional certifications related to healthcare or caregiving are a plus. Ability to handle heavy lifting safely and perform manual handling tasks while maintaining proper body mechanics is necessary. Strong communication skills combined with patience and empathy are vital for building trusting relationships with residents and their families.
