GENERAL SUMMARY The Press Lead reports to the Production Manager. This position is responsible for coordinating production while providing motivation to Team members to focus on the TQPS principles of Safety, Quality, Efficiency, & Cost Reduction. Responsible for assigning work, meeting production due dates, interpreting & ensuring application of policies and procedures. Responsible for appraisal & discipline of work team members. Coordinate Continuous Improvement activities by continuously teaching & training associates using the TQPS principles of TSL. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Safety: Ensure compliance to Safety Policies and Practices Ensure 5-S standards are maintained - Daily verification of items on 5S checklist Ensure & enforce the use of Safety Blocks Follow the lockout/tagout procedure. Keep all safety curtain/guards in place during operation Review & submit suggestions to improve the Safety Environment in assigned areas. Quality: Audit part quality throughout the shift Assist associate on first/last off part quality at changeover Verify Final visual audit inspection of all parts leaving press area for quality Verify that containment pans are being used as specified for batch quantities. Ensure proper containment procedures are followed when poor quality is detected Ensure Containment Checklist procedures are executed if product becomes contaminated. Productivity: Arrange manpower as needed to meet production requirements Confirm attendance of Team members and report out to the Group Leader. Quickly assist associates when machines go idle - elevate problem to next level Able to fill-in as needed for any assigned job in the area of responsibility. Follow the Standard Operating Procedures guidelines-dies come out of press if they aren't running Assist associates in changeovers - conduct external elements prior to start of changeover Responsible for appraisal & discipline of work team members. Conduct walk‑thru's for confirmation of Associates adherence to daily activities - 5-S, TPM, etc. Hourly review of Production Lean Boards. Write & follow-up on Work Orders as needed for repairs in assigned area. Suggest methods of improvement, (i.e. Continuous Improvement Plan & A.I. Team Suggestion Routers) Identify training needs of Associates. Attend Management A.I. Team monthly to report out on cell progress & opportunities. Assure compliance of self and subordinates with NASG procedures and standards. Communication: Continuous interaction with associates to drive the TQPS philosophy (Lean Boards, C/O, A.I. teams, etc.…) Relieve Associates for unscheduled breaks. Ensure all 31‑day charts, 5S checklist, TPM checks, reports, etc.… are turned in and replenished as required. Report all Quality, Production, or Safety problems to the Group Leader. Find problem - fix problem (Initiate Temporary Process Change when problems can’t be quickly resolved) Ensure work orders are submitted for items needing repair in your area Assist Group Leaders in tracking all Work Orders, Tooling or Maintenance, for timely & accurate repairs. Be available for A.I. team meetings as required & requested. Ensure adequate information is passed down to on‑coming shifts to avoid unnecessary downtime Self: 100% commitment to the TQPS principles Challenge the status quo. Self‑disciplined & self‑directed to apply time as value added MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS Education/Experience: High School Diploma or GED Prefer Associates Degree or equivalent experience of at least 2 years in a fast‑paced Production Environment with an emphasis in Stamping / Welding. Demonstrated Leadership, Communication, & Facilitation Skill Sets Minimum two (2) years press experience with progressive, &/or transfer dies, &/or weld assembly processes. Tow motor experience lifting dies and heavy loads. Demonstrated capability of using measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges) Intermediate skills in the use of EXCEL & Microsoft WORD Personal/Technical Skills: Excellent Organization and interpersonal Skills Excellent writing and computer skills Excellent leadership skills Interest and skill in developing subordinates Accountable - Teachable - Approachable Able to flex to address changing needs Ability to problem solve. Shift/Availability: This position is on 1stShift. Must be available for overtime as required. WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS Standard automotive plant environment with moderate noise level. PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as safety glasses, steel toe shoes, Kevlar sleeves, hearing protection, etc. may be required in designated engineering, manufacturing, or industrial areas. Personal attire standards may apply.
