About the Facility Pion Health Center (Indian Health Service)

Pion Health Center is part of the Chinle Service Unit within the Indian Health Service (IHS) and is located in the heart of the Navajo Reservation in northern Arizona. The center provides comprehensive outpatient care to approximately 11,000 patients the majority of whom are Navajo. A collegial group of providers offer services in primary care, women's health, counseling, dental, dietary and community nutrition, health promotions, lab, x-ray, native medicine, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy, speech therapy, podiatry, and public health nursing. The facility operates Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM 5:00 PM.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive walk-in and urgent care services to patients of all ages presenting with acute illnesses, injuries, and chronic condition exacerbations.
• Perform physical examinations, diagnose conditions, develop treatment plans, and prescribe medications.
• Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic studies including laboratory work, imaging, and point-of-care testing.
• Perform minor procedures including wound care, suturing, incision and drainage, splinting, and foreign body removal.
• Manage acute and chronic conditions commonly seen in a rural primary care and walk-in clinic setting.
• Coordinate referrals to specialty care providers and higher levels of care when clinically appropriate.
• Maintain thorough and timely clinical documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Collaborate with nursing staff, allied health professionals, and community health representatives.
• Provide culturally competent care to a predominantly Native American patient population.

Requirements

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine.
• Active, unrestricted medical license (Arizona license or ability to obtain).
• Current DEA registration.
• Current BLS certification (ACLS preferred).
• Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in primary care, urgent care, or emergency medicine.
• Experience with electronic health records.
• Experience serving Native American, IHS, or tribal healthcare populations preferred.
