Eaton’s Electrical Critical Power Solutions Division is currently seeking a Lead Power Electronics Engineer to join our team in Raleigh, NC.This role follows a hybrid work model (3 days in-office, 2 days remote) if you live within 50 miles of our Raleigh, NC facility. In-office presence required based on business and work needs. Remote flexibility is provided to support productivity, but employees should expect to be on-site as necessary to meet team and project requirements. Our growing team is expanding our product portfolio with next-generation technologies, and we need engineers with a passion to ensure that they make what matters to our customers work without question!As a Lead Power Electronics Engineer you will support our product design and development of our high-power three-phase UPS’s. This role also supports products in our Energy Storage lines. The role includes all aspects of product design life cycle from concept to production as part of a global, dynamic, multi-disciplinary team. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.What you’ll do:Successfully launch critical power infrastructure products that meet customer requirements and Eaton safety, quality, reliability, cost and schedule commitments.Work with cross-functional engineering team to design and develop new products including SiC three-phase UPS's from 20kW to 2.5MW and Lithium Ion 1MW and larger energy storage systems for maintaining critical loads such as datacenters and hospitals.Specify and qualify electrical components (breakers, fuses, SCR’s, contactors, power cables etc.)Create circuit diagrams, harness designs, BOM development and technical documentation.Leverage your skill and experience by giving guidance and leadership to other technical project team members.Work with global product development teams to solve problems related to performance, functionality, safety, reliability, quality and component availability.Lead product DVT and validation testing in the lab with a team of engineers and technicians.Support prototype build, testing and delivery of products to the customer.Engage cross functional teams to identify optimal layout while balancing Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and long-term serviceability.Participate in project-wide reviews of requirements, system architecture, and detailed design documents.Work closely with regulatory experts to ensure design meets UL and other certification body requirementsIdentify opportunities for process, tools, and test methodology improvements, and drive those from concept to implementationQualifications:Required (Basic) Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution with minimum 5 years work experience in electrical product development.3+ years hands-on experience in electrical design, lab testing and trouble shooting.Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution with a minimum of 2 years work experience in power electronics product development.Ability to interpret and create electrical drawings, schematics and specifications.Solid knowledge of electrical components, electrical safety, EMC and regulatory requirements.Knowledge of three-phase power systems, UPS electrical design, power electronics, and power conversion topologies.Understanding layout design principles and familiarity with schematic entry and PCB design tools like Altium, Cadence, etc.Experience applying digital control and algorithms to power electronics systems.Understanding of Magnetics Design for high frequency Power Electronics.Ability to simulate, analyze, troubleshoot using HIL systems.Competent with Matlab/Simulink/PLECS and PSPICE.Analyze and simulate power electronics systems from board level to complex products.Skills:Problem Solving - Uses rigorous logic and critical thinking to solve difficult problems with effective solutionsDecision quality – makes good decisions based upon a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgmentDrive for results – can be counted on to exceed goals successfully with a strong sense of urgencyContinuous Learner – Actively seeks out new and innovative ways to solve problemsMentor – can work with less experienced engineers and designer to provide meaningful feedback about design implicationsCommunication - discuss technical concepts and information to internal staff/peers and stakeholdersAll positions may require participation in video and in-person interviews as part of the hiring process.
