SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

The Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for leading and overseeing the facility’s sanitation program to ensure a clean, safe, and compliant manufacturing environment. This position manages sanitation personnel, cleaning programs, schedules, chemicals, equipment, documentation, and verification activities. The Sanitation Supervisor works closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, and other departments to maintain high standards of facility hygiene, GMP compliance, employee safety, and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

·         Develop, implement, maintain, and oversee comprehensive sanitation programs and cleaning schedules for production, packaging, storage and common areas.

·         Ensure sanitation activities are performed in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs), GMP requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.

·         Establish and maintain appropriate cleaning methods, frequencies, procedures, and sanitation standards for facility and production equipment.

·         Ensure sanitation activities are effectively coordinated with production schedules to minimize downtime and prevent disruption to operations.

·         Lead, supervise, schedule, and manage the sanitation team, including performance management and development.

·         Provide initial and ongoing training on sanitation procedures, GMPs, chemical handling, PPE, equipment uses, and safety requirements.

·         Establish clear expectations and hold team members accountable for sanitation standards, quality, safety, attendance, and performance.

·         Ensures the company complies with all local, state and federal regulations, including OSHA, FDA and EPA standards. Assist with internal and external audits, inspections, and certifications, and ensure the facility meets all required sanitation and safety standards. Maintain records related to sanitation activities, cleaning logs, and other documentation as required by regulatory authorities.

·         Identify areas for process improvement, cost reductions, and increased efficiency in sanitation practices and cleaning procedures. Research and recommend new sanitation technologies, tools, and methods that improve cleaning efficiency and reduce downtime.

·         Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, continuous improvement, safety, and ownership within the sanitation department.

Education Required

·         High school diploma or equivalent required.

·         Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, Food Science, Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred.

Required Skills

·         3–5 years of experience in sanitation operations.

·         Strong knowledge of GMPs, sanitation practices, quality systems, SOPs, and applicable regulatory requirements.

·         Experience leading and supervising a team.

·         Strong understanding of workplace safety, PPE requirements, and chemical handling practices.

·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

·         Strong interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.

·         Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with SAP or other ERP systems preferred.

·         Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and adjust schedules based on production and operational needs.
