Minneapolis VA Medical Center is one of the VA's four polytrauma medical centers to care for active-duty service members and Veterans with brain injuries, who are blind, or have had an amputation and maintains a 65,000 square foot center to care for Veterans with spinal cord injuries and disorders. Perfusionist - Responsibilities

• Provide perfusion services in line with ABCP, TJC, and AHA standards.
• Maintain quality of care meeting or exceeding recognized national standards.
• Assist the Cardio-Thoracic surgical team with bypass surgeries, valve replacements, and other cardiac procedures.
• Operate and monitor heart-lung machines, ensuring proper extracorporeal circulation and patient stability.
• Prepare and manage VA-owned cardiovascular support equipment, including intra-aortic balloon pumps and ventricular assist devices.
• Ensure sterile technique and a safe operating environment.

Perfusionist - Requirements

• Must be board-certified through the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.
• Graduated from an accredited Allied Health Education Program School of Perfusion Technology.
• Must possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice in any U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
• Must have certification in Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• Minimum of 10 years with at least 1000 clinical cases, including demonstrated experience in the following areas: Open heart surgery, autotransfusion, heart lung machine, membrane oxygenation, left/right heart bypass, intra-aortic balloon pumping and centrifugal ventricular assist device.
