Associate Quantitative Analyst
$73kPacific Gas and Electric Company
Department Overview Energy Policy & Procurement (EPP) secures electricity and natural gas from wholesale markets for PG&E customers to ensure system reliability. In addition, EPP is responsible for long-term planning, risk management, and compliance functions related to PG&E’s energy portfolio. EPP also actively participates in regulatory and legislative proceedings that shape the design and implementation of state, regional, and federal energy regulation and policy. The Associate Quantitative Analyst position resides within the System Planning team. System Planning is responsible for forecasting volumes, costs, and impacts of demand- and supply-side energy resources. The team is also responsible for market assessment of supply-side and demand-side energy resources. System Planning supports long-term planning for supply-side and demand-side resources, electric transmission and distribution infrastructure, financial planning, and business strategies to meet the future energy needs of PG&E’s customers reliably, at a reasonable cost, and consistent with company and regulatory, legislative, and environmental policies. Position Summary PG&E is seeking a quantitative analyst to develop, analyze, and improve forecasts of customer electric demand and emerging energy technologies. The analyst will apply statistical, economic, and data-analytics methods to large and complex datasets; evaluate market, policy, and technology drivers; build reproducible forecasting tools; and communicate findings to stakeholders. This role requires strong quantitative and data-management capabilities, along with demonstrated knowledge of or interest in distributed energy resources, retail choice, and the regulated utility environment. The California energy landscape is rapidly evolving due to converging policy, technology, and customer trends that are driving a cleaner and more decentralized energy future. The analyst will be part of a dynamic and innovative team responsible for forecasting electric demand and the impacts of emerging customer energy choices, including load-serving entity choice, building electrification, electric vehicles, energy efficiency, rooftop solar, energy storage, and data centers. The team’s forecasts are critical inputs to PG&E’s business strategy, energy supply portfolios, and infrastructure plans. The analyst will support senior team members and stakeholders in developing data-driven forecasts of customer energy demand and technology adoption. Working with internal subject-matter experts, the analyst will evaluate market, policy, technology, and customer-usage data to develop forecast assumptions and identify emerging trends. The analyst will also create analytical and visualization tools that improve forecast production, delivery, transparency, and usability. The successful candidate will demonstrate analytical capability, initiative, intellectual curiosity, structured thinking, strong written and verbal communication skills, and team-orientated approach. This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The work location is Oakland, CA. PG&E is providing the salary/pay range for this position. The actual amount paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location. The range to reasonably expect will be between the minimum to the midpoint of the range. The final decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to the factors above. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.
