Teacher - Science (High School), 2026-27 Job Description This position is responsible for providing engaging and effective classroom instruction and training in science education to high school students. The teacher will foster a dynamic learning environment that promotes inquiry-based learning, critical thinking, and collaboration. Essential Responsibilities and Duties Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated, both individually and collaboratively. Plans and implements a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of all students using data-driven decision‑making. Creates a positive, inclusive, and student-centered classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of all students. Prepares well‑organized and differentiated lesson plans aligned with the board‑approved curriculum and submits written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor. Encourages students to develop and maintain high standards of classroom behavior, mutual respect, and active participation. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes and communicates clear learning objectives to students for all lessons and units. Employs a variety of research‑based instructional strategies, including technology integration, project‑based learning, and personalized learning approaches, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the diverse needs and capabilities of individuals or student groups. Collaborate effectively with administrators, colleagues, parents, and the community to support student success. Implements, by instruction and action, the District’s philosophy of education, instructional goals and objectives, and commitment to serving all students effectively. Assesses student learning through various methods, including formative and summative assessments, and provides timely and constructive feedback to students and parents. Evaluates the learning progress and challenges of students on a regular basis, utilizing data to inform instruction and seeking assistance from District specialists as needed and/or required. Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Maintains accurate and complete records of student progress, attendance, and grades, as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulation. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and develops clear expectations for classroom behavior and procedures that are consistently enforced in a fair and appropriate manner. Maintains open communication and provides accessibility to students and parents for education‑related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms. Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s) where applicable. Engages in continuous professional development to enhance pedagogical skills, content knowledge, and understanding of current educational trends and technologies. Attends staff meetings, participates in professional learning communities, and serves on staff committees as needed. For information on policies, regulations and values, visit Reporting Relationships Reports To: Building Principal and Assistant Principal Supervises: None Qualifications Minimum: Bachelor’s degree; Missouri teacher certificate in science 9‑12. Preferred: Master’s degree and 3 years of successful teaching experience. An ideal candidate will have a professional and friendly demeanor with a demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of individuals in a fast‑paced environment. ADA Requirements Language: Present information to teachers, staff, other administrators, and boards. Respond to common questions and concerns. Interview students, staff, and teachers. Read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, memoranda, policies, administrative procedures, and statutes. Write business correspondence, including staff memoranda and newsletter articles. Keep information confidential when required by law, policy, or the nature of a particular situation. These are essential functions of the job. Computation: Work with mathematical concepts, such as probability and statistical inference, and analyze data for instruction. Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. These are essential functions of the job. Reasoning: Solve a variety of problems in many different situations. Interpret instructions presented in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Demonstrate executive functions such as planning, organizing, remembering, and regulating information and behavior as they pertain to student performance and achievement. These are essential functions of the job. Technology: Integrate technology into daily instruction; present information to students using a variety of media. Access and create reports using the District’s student information software and databases. Readily utilize smart boards, projectors and other instructional technology provided by the district. Adhere to all District policies and procedures regarding technology use. These are essential functions of the job. Physical demands: Frequently move in and around the building and grounds to visit classrooms, attend meetings, and supervise bus loading and unloading and also be able to sit for an hour or more at a time. The position requires the ability to hear conversations in a noisy environment. Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position including attend Board meetings, student activities and events, and IEP meetings. Weekends or in evening hours is common. These are essential functions of the job. Environmental conditions: The work environment is consistent with a typical office environment; however, they will occasionally be outside in temperatures below freezing and above 100 degrees. The individual who holds this position is frequently required to work irregular or extended hours. These are essential functions of the job.
