Job Description

Carle Foundation Hospital is seeking an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) for the General OR . The RN will provide perioperative nursing care, prepare operating rooms, assist the surgical team throughout procedures, ensure patient safety, and provide appropriate handoff to the receiving nurse following surgery.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the OR suite with required supplies, equipment, medications, and surgical materials.
• Verify patient identity using two patient identifiers .
• Transport patients safely to the appropriate OR suite and onto the operating table.
• Perform required surgical time-outs before procedures, prior to incision, and before exiting the OR.
• Safely position and prep patients according to procedure-specific guidelines.
• Assist and support the surgical team throughout procedures.
• Obtain and provide requested supplies, medications, blood products, specimens, cultures, dressings, and other surgical needs.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of nursing care.
• Monitor and promote patient safety throughout the perioperative process.
• Transport patients to PACU or the appropriate unit following surgery.
• Provide a thorough handoff report to the receiving RN.
• Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nurses, and other members of the surgical team.
• Complete all required departmental competencies.

Requirements

• 3+ years of relevant nursing experience required
• General OR / Operating Room experience required
• ASN required; BSN preferred
• Active Illinois RN License
• BLS – AHA
• Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing practices and patient safety protocols

• Shift: Days
• Hours: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• 40 hours/week
• 4 × 10-hour shifts
• Day off TBD
