Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.QualificationsEducation/Certification:Bachelor's degree from accredited universityValid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assignedCurrent ESL Certification: ESL Certification required within (2) years of employment beginning with teachers hired in the 2010-2011 school yearDemonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assignedGifted Teachers must have 30 hours of gifted approved hours requiredSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Knowledge of subject matter in assigned positionKnowledge of curriculum and instructionAbility to instruct students and manage their behaviorStrong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsExperience:Completion of student teaching or approved internshipMajor Responsibilities and DutiesServe a diverse population of students who may be participating in state/federal programs as well as general education.Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.Abide by the Alief ISD Code of Civility.Maintain an acceptable attendance rate – 94% annually (excluding approved leaves and emergencies).Confer with and foster professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators on a regular basis per building and district guidelines.Plan and participate in all meetings and provide appropriate documentation for students regarding admissions, reviews, progress, grades, dismissals, conferences, etc.Comply with state and federal laws, district policies, rules, regulations and administrative directives as they exist or may hereafter be amended.Instructional StrategiesPlan and teach a program of study in accordance with the Texas Education Agency (TEA), district mandates and curricula, multiple preparations (courses) are necessary for many.Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and district's curriculum program and shows written evidence of preparation as required. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students.Implement instructional, linguistic, and/or modifications and accommodations per Admissions/Review/Dismissal (ARD) committees; LPAC committees; Section 504 committees, and RtI committees for students receiving services under all district, state and federal guidelines.Work cooperatively with special education teachers and interventionists to modify curricula as needed for struggling general education students and special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.Diagnose the learning needs of all students and seek the assistance of building and district leadership for appropriate intervention methods, techniques and strategies.Student Growth and DevelopmentAssess the on-going accomplishments and needs of students, maintain appropriate records, provide immediate feedback and progress reports on a regular basis per building and district guidelines. Administer state assessments as appropriate to student population. Small group instruction is used.Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. If working less than 187 days, the salary will be less.Note: TRA/SRA (Teacher and Staff Retention Allotment) amount is in addition to the regular salary listed.
