Nurse Manager - Hospice

Our eight‑campus healthcare district has 613 beds and offers comprehensive health services across a broad continuum of care. Role Purpose The purpose of this position is to provide 24/7 oversight of efficient operations to meet the holistic needs of the patients and families served. The position demonstrates high‑level leadership accountability in assuring staff competency, financial responsibility, and enhancing Kaweah Health’s mission and vision to achieve strategic priorities. Qualifications License / Certification Required: CA RN license, BLS, Kaweah Health approved crisis intervention training within 60 days of hire/transfer. Education Preferred: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Experience Preferred: Clinical area expertise and supervisory experience. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities: Excellent written and oral communication skills, effective interpersonal skills, critical thinking and creative problem solving. Department Specific Requirements (if assigned to Hospice): at least three to five years of clinical nursing experience providing palliative care or hospice services; Certified Hospice Palliative Nurse (CHPN) strongly preferred. Job Responsibilities Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Joint Commission standards, California’s Nursing Practice Act, applicable sections of Title 22 and 17, and applicable Federal guidelines including HIPAA. Maintain 24‑hour responsibility for the quality of care and performance improvement activities in the area of supervision. Organize patient care and service in areas supervised; collaborate with the Director to implement the unit plan for patient care based on staff availability and patient needs. Assist staff with clinical assessment and decision‑making; respond to unexpected staff shortages by maximizing resources and prioritizing patient care needs. Ensure patient care needs are met timely and coordinated across the continuum of services and sites; coordinate and participate in patient discharge and planning rounds. Monitor patients daily through rounds and feedback; oversee patient care documentation to ensure adequacy and regulatory compliance; use the Statement of Concern process to report care issues. Utilize patient satisfaction data, medical staff chains‑of‑command, and research findings to improve care and develop policies and procedures. Assess and document staff competency; collaborate with the Educator on orientation and annual evaluation plans; complete performance appraisals within 30 days of the due date. Allocate staff resources to meet unit plan of care; use patient classification tools to direct staffing; prepare staff schedules that meet patient population needs. Interview, hire, and support new employees; promote staff development and continuing education. Communicate effectively with key constituencies, other patient care leaders, nurse managers, bed managers, and staffing facilitators; coordinate patient care between departments. Model nonjudgmental, nondiscriminatory patient care; maintain confidentiality and act as a patient advocate. Additional responsibilities for the Hospice Department include collaborating with the Director of Hospice Services to ensure safe, high‑quality, cost‑effective services; maintain regulatory compliance; manage schedules and staffing; participate in QAPI and inventory management.
