We are in search of a skilled Transplant Hepatologist to take on the role of Medical Director for Liver Transplantation. This position combines clinical expertise, program leadership, educational responsibilities, and collaborative care. As the Medical Director, you will play a vital role in a nationally recognized transplant center within the VA system, collaborating with national partners to conduct liver transplant evaluations, enhance the candidacy of Veterans for transplants, and ensure seamless post-transplant care.

Veteran-Focused Liver Transplantation

• Diagnose and manage a wide range of chronic liver conditions, including hepatitis C, NAFLD/NASH, autoimmune liver diseases, and alcohol-related liver issues.
• Oversee and perform thorough pre- and post-liver transplant assessments, ensuring medical optimization and ongoing care in collaboration with VA transplant centers.
• Engage in multidisciplinary transplant boards, working alongside teams from hepatology, surgery, psychology, addiction medicine, pharmacy, and social work.

Development of Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) Optimization Program

• Lead the creation and execution of a specialized AUD care pathway for Veterans with alcohol-related liver disease who are being evaluated for transplant.
• Collaborate with transplant psychologists and addiction specialists to deliver integrated, evidence-based care, including structured behavioral interventions and relapse prevention strategies.
• Establish comprehensive post-transplant monitoring and support systems tailored to Veterans' needs, coordinating with VA mental health services and community resources.

Additional Responsibilities

• Participate actively in the weekly Tumor Board to assess and discuss complex oncology cases.
• Attend the weekly Transplant Huddle to coordinate patient care and align management strategies.
• Lead the Transplant Selection Committee, facilitating multidisciplinary decisions regarding transplant eligibility.
• Contribute to the Liver Transplant Multidisciplinary Clinic, collaborating with specialists to ensure comprehensive patient care.
• Manage a personal Telehealth Clinic, providing remote consultations and continuity of care for transplant patients.
• Oversee post-transplant monitoring and long-term care, focusing on optimal patient outcomes and addressing complications.
• Review and accept referrals from VA centers nationwide, ensuring timely access to transplant services.
• Triage clinical inquiries from referring VA facilities, offering expert guidance on veteran patient care.

Candidates should be board eligible or certified in Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology, with fellowship training in both Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology, as well as proficiency in general GI endoscopy.

Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Eligible for up to $200,000 in student loan reimbursement.
