We strive to create a supportive community where every person is valued, heard, and cared for with dignity and respect.The EMT, Recuperative Care provides frontline health support, monitoring, and emergency response for clients recovering from illness, injury, or hospitalization in Whole Person Care Clinic's Recuperative Care program. Serving individuals who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness, the EMT helps clients stabilize, heal safely, and stay connected to medical, behavioral health, and housing services.Working under the direction and supervision of WPCC's licensed clinical staff, the EMT applies emergency medical training within their certified scope of practice and program guidelines: taking vital signs, responding to medical emergencies, supporting client self-administration of medications, and promptly escalating any change in condition. This role supports CalAIM Community Supports services in a non-independent capacity and follows WPCC policy and applicable California law.Key ResponsibilitiesConduct routine wellness rounds and obtain and record vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature, oxygen saturation) and blood glucose checks as directedPerform basic assessments within EMT scope and observe for, document, and immediately report changes in client condition to supervising clinical staffRespond to on-site medical emergencies, including CPR/AED, basic airway management, bleeding control, and first aid, and activate 911 when indicatedRecognize and respond to suspected opioid overdose, including administration of naloxone per WPCC protocolAssist clients with safe mobility, transfers, and ambulation; support fall-prevention measuresCheck dressings and assist with basic wound-care support as delegated, reporting signs of infection or deteriorationSupport clients during intake by collecting baseline vitals and health information under authorized supervisionSupport client self-administration of medications in accordance with WPCC procedures and authorized delegationMonitor adherence to medication routines and maintain accurate, timely medication logsImmediately escalate medication errors, refusals, adverse reactions, or discrepancies to supervising clinical staffAssist with scheduling and coordinating medical, behavioral health, and specialty appointments, and support hospital discharge follow-upProvide basic health education on hygiene, wound care, wellness routines, and medication adherence without clinical interpretationParticipate in daily huddles and interdisciplinary team meetings; share observations that inform client care plansCollaborate with Case Managers, behavioral health partners, housing staff, and clinical staff to support integrated, whole-person careUse de-escalation techniques and maintain a safe, trauma-informed environment for clients and staffDocument vital signs, observations, emergency responses, medication support, and care coordination activities in the EHR accurately and on timeComplete incident reports for emergencies, falls, and other critical events per WPCC policyMaintain documentation in compliance with HIPAA, CMIA, 42 CFR Part 2, OSHA/Cal-OSHA, and WPCC policiesSupport tracking of program metrics and client health outcomes as directedMaintain clean, safe client care areas and follow standard precautions and infection-control proceduresCheck, restock, and maintain emergency and medical equipment and supplies (AED, oxygen, first-aid kits, naloxone, PPE)Participate in required trainings, emergency drills, competency sign-offs, and onboarding activitiesRequirements & QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalentCurrent, active California EMT certification in good standingCurrent Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certificationMeet credentialing and certification requirements as defined by WPCC program guidelinesMinimum one (2) year of experience as an EMT or in a clinical, recuperative care, shelter, or social services settingExperience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, chronic illness, substance use, or behavioral health challengesTraining in overdose response, de-escalation, or Mental Health First AidFamiliarity with electronic health record (EHR) systemsBilingual (English/Spanish) a plusCore CompetenciesSound emergency response and clinical observation skills within EMT scope of practiceTrauma-informed, culturally responsive client interactionCalm, professional judgment under pressure and knowing when to escalateProfessional communication and teamworkAccurate documentation and digital literacyOrganization, prioritization, and time managementConfidentiality and regulatory complianceWorking Conditions & Physical RequirementsOn-site work at an assigned WPCC recuperative care siteRegular walking and standing between client rooms and care areasAbility to lift up to 25 lbs. and assist clients with mobility and transfersExposure to clients with communicable conditions or behavioral health needsUse of PPE and compliance with OSHA/Cal-OSHA and WPCC safety standardsSchedule RequirementsFull-time (40 hours/week), variable shiftsMust be available for assigned shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidaysEEO/ADA StatementWPCC is an equal opportunity organization committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of service and employment.
