A State of Georgia license as an Electrical Contractor is preferred (as required by assigned duties). Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position. Able to read and understand blueprints, diagrams, and schematics helpful. Purpose of Classification The purpose of this classification is to lead a team of skilled trades workers performing day-to-day maintenance of County buildings and facilities. Essential Functions Leads and coordinates daily work activities of assigned crew or co-workers: confers with supervisor to obtain direction regarding work assignments and priorities; organizes tasks in order to complete assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; confers with co-workers, assists with complex/problem situations, and provides technical expertise; assists with training and instructing co-workers regarding operational procedures and proper use of equipment; assists with supervision of co-workers by reporting employee problems and providing input on disciplinary action and employee performance evaluations. Completes daily facility maintenance tasks in an assigned field, such as carpentry, welding, HVAC, electrical, and/or plumbing. Places, installs, and tests equipment to ensure equipment is secure and functioning properly, then reports to Trades Supervisor results; acts as Trades Supervisor in their absence. Answers questions or help troubleshoot issues with customers and other departments. Inspects systems and performs preventative maintenance tasks, such as cleaning, re-calibrating, and repairing, when needed. Maintains team equipment to ensure staff has the necessary equipment to complete any job; acts as safety monitor on job sites for the team. Ensures all work is completed properly and in a timely manner; notates work orders with details about how work was completed and materials used. Collects quotes from outside vendors. The use of large equipment, such as a bucket lift, may be necessary for certain jobs. On-call work may be needed due to work schedules and demands of daily business. May make recommendations to customers on what equipment may need to be procured. Performs other related duties as required. Incident Command & Operational Management – Coordinating personnel, equipment, and tasks during complex operations or incidents; transferable to managing electrical work assignments, coordinating job-site activities, and maintaining continuity of operations. Emergency Response & Crisis Management – Responding quickly and methodically to emergencies, equipment failures, power disruptions, and hazardous situations while following established procedures; valuable for emergency electrical repairs and facility response. Team Leadership & Communication – Directing teams, communicating instructions clearly, training personnel, and coordinating with other units or departments; directly applicable to leading electricians, assigning work, and communicating with supervisors and other trades. Safety & Risk Management – Identifying hazards, enforcing safety procedures, using protective equipment, and mitigating operational risks; highly transferable to electrical safety, OSHA compliance, lockout/tagout practices, and safe work-site operations. Technical & Tactical Proficiency – Applying technical knowledge, equipment operation, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and established procedures to identify and resolve problems; transferable to electrical systems maintenance, repair, installation, diagnostics, and use of specialized tools. Strategic Planning & Resource Coordination – Planning missions/work operations, determining personnel and equipment requirements, managing resources, and adjusting priorities as conditions change; transferable to scheduling electrical work, coordinating materials and equipment, estimating manpower needs, and completing projects efficiently. Performance Aptitudes Data Utilization Requires the ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize, and/or analyze data. Includes exercising discretion in determining data classification, and in referencing such analysis to established standards for the purpose of recognizing actual or probable interactive effects and relationships. Human Interaction Requires the ability to provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others regarding the application of procedures and standards to specific situations. Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization Requires the ability to overhaul, restore, renovate, construct, and/or rebuild equipment, machinery, or objects, requiring adherence to prescribed standards and specifications. Requires the ability to operate and control the actions of the same equipment, machinery, and/or objects. Requires the ability to operate and control the actions of equipment and machinery, requiring the monitoring, adjustment, regulation, and/or setting of multiple conditions. Verbal Aptitude Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information. Mathematical Aptitude Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages; may include ability to perform mathematical operations with fractions; may include ability to compute discount, interest, and ratios; may include ability to calculate surface areas, volumes, weights, and measures. Functional Reasoning Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives. Situational Reasoning Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental, or subjective criteria, as opposed to that which is clearly measurable or verifiable.
