1. Education: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. Current licensure in the State of Arkansas. Proficient oral and written communication skills.

2. Training and Experience: Individualized orientation period of no less than 2 weeks and generally no greater than 3 months.

3. Job Knowledge: Ability to practice nursing as described by the following definition: " The diagnosis and treatment of human responses to actual or potential health alterations.” Ability to utilize the nursing process in the provision of nursing care including but not limited to administering prescribed treatments, medications and diagnostic tests, formulating a plan of care using the problem list, collaborating with other health care providers and providing education to patients and/or significant others.

DESCRIPTION:

This position provides nursing care in a therapeutic residential treatment environment where nurses work closely with an interdisciplinary team to support adolescents recovering from substance use disorders and co-occurring behavioral health conditions through relationship-base care, patient education, and ongoing assessment. The SUD Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care to adolescents receiving residential treatment for substance use disorders and co-occurring behavioral health disorders in a structured, trauma-informed, recovery-oriented environment. Utilizing the nursing processes, the RN assesses, plans, implements, coordinated, and evaluates nursing care while promoting patient safety, emotional stabilization, recovery, and healthy adolescents development. Responsible for ongoing assessment of each patient’s physical, behavioral, emotional, and psychiatric status, including recognition of withdrawal symptoms, suicide and self-harm risk, aggression, elopement risk, medication response, and changes in medical or psychiatric condition. The RN collaborates with psychiatrists, advanced practice providers, therapists, social workers, behavioral health technicians, educators, and other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team to ensure individualized, patient-centered care. The RN contributes to the therapeutic milieu by utilizing therapeutic communication, trauma-informed interventions, verbal de-escalation techniques, patient and family education, and evidence-based nursing practice to support recovery and treatment goals. Demonstrates professionalism, sound clinical judgment, and adherence to hospital policies, regulatory standards, and patient rights while promoting a safe and supportive treatment environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Maintains good physical and emotional well being. Job responsibilities require a considerable amount of physical work. The individual will be required to assist with lifting and moving patients, pushing of carts, wheelchairs, and other equipment; and lifting or pushing of up to 50 pounds. The individual must be able to bend over to perform certain duties, e.g., check urinary output, etc. The individual must also be able to maneuver throughout the halls, stairways, and patient rooms in response to hospital emergencies. Interpretation of environmental input requires visual and auditory skills. A significant amount of writing and computer entry is required. Trips to various departments will be required. The position does have some heavy exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents. Exposure to infectious wastes and body fluids may mandate the wearing of gloves, masks, gowns, and goggles.
