The unit primarily caters to adult patients requiring care after traumatic injuries. Typical cases include those related to surgical trauma and various other injuries. Responsibilities include monitoring patients with telemetry and providing necessary care. The nurse-to-patient ratio is usually 1:4, flexing to 1:5 as needed. Interdisciplinary support teams include physical therapy, respiratory services, and pharmacy. Special equipment and procedures may be utilized for patient management. Nurses should be able to perform tasks such as administering medications and managing IVs. Knowledge of isolation precautions and dysrhythmia interpretation is necessary. This role requires collaboration with rapid response teams and other healthcare professionals. Weekend shifts are part of the schedule, requiring flexibility. Travel experience is beneficial but not mandatory.
