Associate Director, Commercial Data Science What you will do In this vital role the Associate Director of Data Science within the Customer Data & Analytics team is accountable for the delivery of key AI/ML projects for the Data Science team within Amgen’s commercial organization. The Associate Director will lead a team of data scientists to utilize advanced methodologies in AI/ML to craft and deploy bespoke solutions. This position reports to the Senior Director, Commercial Data Science and will be responsible for the following activities within the CBU and IBBU brands: Flexible Commuter role to Thousand Oaks, CA office. You will work on-site a minimum of 2 days a week. Lead execution and delivery for Machine Learning and advanced analytics projects overseeing capabilities for predictive modeling, AI/ML, Gen AI, and other large‑scale data modeling projects Prototype and productionize advanced models using probabilistic time‑series, deep learning, causal inference, reinforcement learning, agent‑based simulation, and generative/agentic techniques Lead omnichannel media strategy aligning with brand objectives and driving impact Provide day‑to‑day guidance for a team of data scientists (both Sr and Jr members) in projects ranging from statistical analysis, predictive modeling and Generative AI Develop, coach, lead, and retain a dynamic, high‑performing Data Science team delivering results, and gaining trust with stakeholders Effectively communicate with key stakeholders on the impact, status and success of Data Science capability initiatives Provide Data Science capability through relevant data science certifications and biopharmaceutical industry expertise and direction to the CD&A organization Maintain an awareness of current research and standard methodologies in the field of data analytics, including best practices in analytics Primary point of contact for commercial leaders to engage in AI/ML activities Engage and communicate with key stakeholders on the impact, status and success of Data Science capability initiatives What we expect of you We are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients. Basic Qualifications Doctorate degree and 3 years of experience in statistics, operations research, mathematics, econometrics, business administration or a quantitative field Master’s degree and 7 years of experience in statistics, operations research, mathematics, econometrics, business administration or a quantitative field Bachelor’s degree and 9 years of experience in statistics, operations research, mathematics, econometrics, business administration or a quantitative field Associate’s degree and 12 years of experience in statistics, operations research, mathematics, econometrics, business administration or a quantitative field High school diploma / GED and 14 years of experience in statistics, operations research, mathematics, econometrics, business administration or a quantitative field In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have a minimum of 3 years experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation of resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above. Preferred Qualifications Relevant data science experience and bio/pharmaceutical industry experience Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to manage and develop a team of data scientists and analysts, 3+ years of direct people management experience Experience in AI, Machine Learning, quantitative methods, multivariate statistics, predictive modeling and other analytics frameworks/techniques with 5+ years of experience delivering complex analytical projects Experience in Databricks and AWS (and other cloud technologies) Advanced proficiency and hands‑on coding experience in Python/R/Scala/Java or any other object‑oriented programming language Proficiency working with external claims data to understand patient journeys and conduct relevant analysis for therapeutic teams Comprehensive understanding of the components of setting up data models in git‑based environment with CI/CD capabilities Ability to cultivate and encourage an environment of openness and transparency in seeking diverse opinions and empower risk‑taking in idea generation, idea incubation and/or experimentation Partner with business leaders to deliver high‑quality predictions that guide strategic decision making Oral, written, and presentation skills to explain complex concepts and controversial findings clearly to a variety of audiences, including senior management Comfortable challenging the status quo and bringing forward innovative solutions Understanding of technology platforms and ability to partner with IS/IT and business leaders both onshore and offshore What you can expect of us We support your professional and personal growth and well‑being. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
