Nurse Practitioner- Oncology

We are looking for talented and highly‑motivated individuals who demonstrate a natural desire to support the meaningful work of community oncologists and the patients we serve. Job Description Objective: The Nurse Practitioner provides direct and indirect patient care reflecting initiative, flexibility, and responsibility indicative of professional expectation with a minimum of supervision. Responsibilities / Essential Functions Effectively assess routine follow‑up patients as well as add‑ons, with an average schedule load of 8‑12 patients per day. Order and interpret appropriate laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures. Communicate with providers as warranted. Complete notes and charges in a timely manner. Facilitate refills of specialty medications such as Capecitabine, Palbociclib, Ibrutinib, etc., as well as prescriptions for controlled substances. Frequently manage bone density of patients for physicians. Assist nursing staff with patients’ infusion/allergy reactions. Manage your own inbox, including patient questions, prescription refills, etc.; manage physician inboxes when physicians are out of office. Authorize and register Lenalidomide/Pomalidomide or other REMS programs. Handle emergency situations with skill and accuracy, while maintaining a calm demeanor. Ensure all aspects of patient care are performed in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health‑care errors, including adjusting treatment orders as indicated or agreed upon by practice physicians. Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity. Provide an interdisciplinary approach to patient care by effectively consulting with other health team members and departments. Maintain a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments. Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in‑service meetings and workshops. Show initiative for professional practice and pursue ongoing education. Other responsibilities as assigned. *This job description is not designed to cover an exhaustive list of duties. Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Current California RN License, Nurse Practitioner and Furnishing certification. CPR certification required. Current DEA License or willing to obtain within one month of hire. Minimum 2 years of RN experience in an outpatient oncology setting. OCN Certification, required. Excellent verbal communication skills. Strong pharmacology knowledge, including drug names and available dosage forms. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks. Proficiency in computer processing functions and other standard office equipment. Ability to calmly and professionally resolve patient issues with diplomacy and tact. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Strong organizational skills. Working Conditions This position functions primarily indoors in a medical/business environment. The employee may be exposed to blood‑borne pathogens, radiation, bio‑waste and other medically related factors, with exposure to moderate noise levels. Visual acuity to read and compute screen and paper documents; hearing acuity to converse with staff and customers; ability to walk, stoop, bend, kneel, and lift and move 25 pounds on a regular basis; ability to sit for hours at a time. The employee will be exposed to moderate noise levels, interruptions, and occasionally asked to work evening and weekends as needed. Travel Travel between local offices when necessary.
