Principal Mechanical Engineer

Abbott seeks a Principal Mechanical Engineer in Alameda, California to lead mechanical design and new product development for medical devices. The role requires expertise in design transfer, regulatory compliance, and technical leadership of complex engineering projects with cross-functional responsibility.

Responsibilities

• Design, verify, and validate mechanical designs per medical regulatory standards
• Develop technical project plans, schedules, and resource budgets meeting design control requirements
• Lead development of product specifications, FMEAs, DOEs, and validation protocols
• Mentor and manage a team of engineers from junior to senior levels
• Investigate and resolve manufacturing line issues and conduct technical design reviews

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering; Master's degree preferred
• Minimum 12 years of related engineering experience
• Strong mechanical engineering expertise with excellent written and verbal communication
• Minimum 2 years of experience managing and developing direct reports
• Knowledge of medical device regulations (ISO 13485, FDA guidelines)
• Experience with design for manufacture of low-cost, high-volume products
• Demonstrated proficiency in tolerance analysis, statistical analysis, and engineering calculations

Compensation: $130,700–$261,300 base
