Salary: $47,925.00 Annually Location: Fayette County, PA Job Type: Civil Service Permanent Full-Time Job Number: CS-2026-47708-47200 Department: Department of Corrections Division: CR SCI Fayette Union: PSCOA Bargaining Unit: H1 Pay Group: CO34 Bureau / Division: SCI Fayette Description of Work The Corrections Officer Trainee participates in formal training sessions and on‑job assignments to develop skills and techniques in the custody and supervision of inmates in a state correctional facility. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a corrections officer. The role involves the care, custody, control, and non‑professional counseling of inmates. Direct and indirect contact with inmates and visitors. Directing inmates and maintaining security in cellblocks, housing units, cottages, work areas, dining, and recreation areas by monitoring their movement and activities. Observing inmates by making periodic and unannounced rounds, head counts, and security checks, and reporting any unusual activity to a corrections officer. Working a 40‑hour work week with shifts to be determined; work any shift and in all areas of the institution as assigned; work overtime as required; work on weekends and holidays during the normal schedule; report to work under adverse weather conditions. Participating in formalized instruction in sociology, psychology, court procedures, self‑defense, leadership, custodial responsibilities, and the facility's organizational structure. Providing advice and guidance to inmates in their adjustment to correctional processes and the Department's rules and regulations. Preparing written reports. Responding to emergency situations. Qualifications PA residency requirement is currently waived. Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required. Must be able to perform essential job functions. Must pass a background investigation and meet CJIS compliance requirements. Must successfully complete a medical examination, psychological evaluation, and urinalysis screening for drugs.
