Product Designer

Dolmen Design looking for an experienced Senior Product Designer to join our team and help shape the future for some of the world’s most exciting brands in the fields of FMCG and Med-tech & Life Sciences. We pride ourselves on our collaborative, supportive design process where we continually grow our team's ability and ambition at our Dublin studio. This is an exciting opportunity for a designer who is passionate about detail, quality and innovation where you will get to lead projects, shape design direction and inspire clients while honing your creative skills.

The role:

1. Bring products through the entire design process from discovery, to R&D, to manufacture guiding clients and influencing decisions & strategy,

2. You will get to fulfil your passion as a designer solving complex design challenges with innovative solutions

3. We pride ourselves on building strong relationships with our clients, embedding ourselves into their team where you will get to foster a collaborative spirt, understanding their needs and translating them into effective solutions

4. Story telling is a big part of our process where you will help generate content to inspire internal and external teams

5. Lead collaborative ideation sessions, setting the themes and guiding clients through the process with support from lead designers

6. Get exposure to projects from a diverse client base, managing resources, commercial objectives, costs and aligning project activities with business goals.

7. You will get to flex your technical and creative muscles on projects that combine innovative engineering solutions married with aesthetic designs & visualisations that reflect and elevate our clients designs language.

8. Lead R&D prototype development and testing schedules and translate these into cost effective manufacturable products.

9. Liaise with manufacturers and suppliers to ensure costs targets & design intent are kept during manufacturing process.

11. With the help of the team leads you will be part of nurturing and mentoring junior members of the team to help bring on the next wave of talent.

Skills and Knowledge:

1. Sketching: Strong sketching skills to quickly communicate design concepts and ideas, both digitally and by hand, with a high level of creativity and precision.

2. Visualisation: ability to create compelling and emotive visuals that communicate the design intent using Adobe CS and Keyshot.

3. CAD: Strong CAD capabilities (e.g. SolidWorks and Creo) to rapidly develop complex assemblies with accurate parts which are specified with detailed drawings. An advantage to have working knowledge of simulation tools (FEA, CFD, Moldflow) to optimise parameters.

4. Prototyping: Strong hands-on prototyping skills to build and test physical models, ensuring aesthetics, functionality and usability are verified at each project stage.

5. DFM: Experience in designing for manufacture (e.g. injection moulding, sheet fabrication, casting) to ensure feasible concepts are developed and design intent is maintained to production.

6. Time Management: Excellent time management skills to deliver multiple projects and meet tight deadlines without compromising quality.

7. Agility + Initiative: Strong ability to adapt quickly to changing project requirement and proactive initiative to evaluate, prioritise and deliver on project commitments.

8. Teamwork: Proficient teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional project teams (internal and external) and ensure alignment on key project decisions.

9. Communication: Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to articulate topics clearly and in accessible language to clients, stakeholders, and team members.

10. Leadership: Experience leading teams, mentoring and guiding them through the design process and ensuring delivery of project goals.

Experience and Qualifications:

1. A 6+ years of relevant experience in industrial design or design engineering in a fast-paced environment, with experience in leading design projects and teams.

2. A recognized degree level qualification in Product Design / Industrial Design / Product Design Engineering or a related technical discipline. Further qualifications in related topics is advantageous (e.g. UI/UX, electronics, CAD, sustainability).
