Physician Medical Director - Competitive Salary

Job Description Administration Opening in Dallas, TX Full-time, PermanentWe are seeking a highly experienced Medical Director of Correctional Health Services to lead and oversee comprehensive medical operations within a correctional healthcare program. This leadership role offers the opportunity to shape high-quality, patient-centered care in a complex environment while collaborating across behavioral health, primary care, specialty services, and hospital systems to improve outcomes for an underserved population.Key Responsibilities Direct and coordinate all medical services within Correctional Health Services Partner with behavioral health leadership to ensure integrated, effective care delivery Provide clinical oversight for adult and women’s health services, ensuring adherence to established medical protocols and identifying quality improvement opportunities Adapt communication and care approaches to meet diverse patient needs, including older adults and individuals with sensory impairments Maintain collaborative relationships with law enforcement, healthcare leadership, vendors, hospitals, patients, and families Contribute to the development, implementation, and monitoring of departmental goals aligned with organizational objectives Lead recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of physician and provider staff Serve as supervising physician for advanced practice providers and advisor to nursing leadership Provide education and training for residents, students, and clinical staff Act as liaison between correctional healthcare providers and external care systems including specialty clinics, emergency services, and inpatient care Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and accreditation standards Oversee quality improvement initiatives and performance management programs Analyze workflows and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness Support physician retention and engagement strategies* Promote a patient-centered culture emphasizing communication, respect, and high-quality care Qualifications (Required) Completion of an ACGME- or AMA-approved residency program Board Certified or Board Eligible in an appropriate specialty Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in clinical medicine programs Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills Experience working in multidisciplinary healthcare environments Ability to recruit, develop, and lead high-performing medical teams Current Texas medical license or ability to obtain within 180 days At least one professional reference within the past 24 months* Current NPDB Self-Query report (within 30 days at time of submission) Preferred Qualifications Experience in a correctional health setting Spanish language proficiency* Clean malpractice and licensure history Skills & Competencies Demonstrated clinical excellence and peer recognition Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities Ability to address social determinants of health in care planning Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving and organizational skills Adaptability in fast-paced or evolving environments High attention to detail while maintaining a big-picture perspective* Proficiency with standard computer applications (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets) Compensation & Benefits Competitive executive-level physician salary (based on experience and training) Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance Retirement plans with employer contributions Generous paid time off and holidays Continuing Medical Education (CME) support Professional liability coverage Leadership development and career advancement opportunities Access to a nationally recognized academic healthcare environmentaa415a4b-8b21-40fc-a65c-70d2b25ca29a
