Why Join Us Stable, full-time schedule with weekday hours Opportunity to work on diverse and sophisticated HVAC systems Hands-on exposure to building automation and controls Strong culture of learning, collaboration, and knowledge sharing Opportunities for professional growth and career development Positive work environment with experienced industry professionals What You'll Do Maintain Critical Building HVAC Systems (80%) You will be responsible for maintaining the reliable operation of a wide variety of commercial HVAC and refrigeration equipment, including: Centrifugal, screw, scroll, and reciprocating chillers Cooling towers Heating and cooling pumps Air handling units and associated components Evaporative cooling systems Low-pressure hot water boilers Air compressors and refrigerated air dryers HVAC controls and mechanical systems Key responsibilities include: Performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and equipment adjustments Diagnosing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and controls-related issues Installing, maintaining, and repairing HVAC and refrigeration equipment Reading wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals Documenting work orders, preventative maintenance activities, labor, and repair records Utilizing Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Excel, and Word for work tracking and reporting Support Laboratory Ventilation & Life Safety Systems (10%) Maintain and troubleshoot variable air volume (VAV) laboratory fume hood systems Measure and verify laboratory airflow and pressurization requirements Repair or replace fume hood air valves and control devices Inspect, test, and maintain HVAC-related fire and smoke dampers and actuators Ensure systems operate safely and in accordance with applicable codes and standards Complete HVAC Modifications & Improvements (5%) Perform minor ductwork and piping additions or modifications Evaluate load impacts to existing systems Support ventilation upgrades and equipment connections Interpret mechanical drawings to determine appropriate installation methods Additional Responsibilities (5%) Participate as a member of the asbestos abatement team if selected Perform other duties as assigned What Success Looks Like Successful candidates are: Hard-working and dependable Technically sound with strong troubleshooting abilities Willing to share knowledge and collaborate with teammates Comfortable working independently Detail-oriented and safety-focused Excellent communicators who work effectively with customers and coworkers Work Environment This position works on-site within a campus facilities environment and involves exposure to mechanical equipment rooms, rooftops, laboratories, and occupied buildings. Work may require climbing ladders, lifting equipment and materials, working in varying weather conditions, and adhering to industry safety standards and regulations. Class Code & Classification Description D6C2XX Pipe/Mechanical Trades II Minimum Qualifications Experience Only: Three (3) years of relevant HVAC service and maintenance experience in commercial, institutional, industrial, or similar environments, which included: EPA Refrigerant Certification (Please attach to application) Experience troubleshooting HVAC mechanical, electrical, and control systems Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, schematics, and equipment documentation Ability to safely perform physically demanding work in a variety of environments Or Education and Experience: A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to three (3) years (Transcripts must be attached to application for educational credit). Preferred Qualifications NATE Certification or related HVAC technical training Experience with commercial chillers, boilers, air handling systems, and building controls Experience with laboratory ventilation systems and fume hoods Knowledge of HVAC-related life safety systems Familiarity with building automation systems and controls Prior relevant state service
