Mechanic HelperLocation: Support Services Facility - Transportation DepartmentHours: 6:00AM – 2:30PM (8 hours per day with ½ lunch)Terms of Employment: 12 Month According to School CalendarReports To: Lead Mechanic / Director of TransportationPlease Note--in order to bid on this position:Hours may not conflict with any other position you now holdAll required Certificates and/or Course Transcripts must be on file in the Classified/Human Capital DepartmentPurpose of Position: Assist in maintaining and repairing the district's transportation fleet and support vehicles.Qualifications:High School diploma or equivalent.Demonstrated record of successful employment.Must have a CDL License or willing to obtain one.Documented mechanic experience in a Class B (preferred) recognized shop working on appropriate vehicles. Two years verified work experience or a Two Year verified Technical School Degree.CDL License required.Must successfully pass a physical assessment including a material handling lift test up to 75 pounds.Meet the Sylvania Schools vehicle insurance criteria, and maintain the same.Appropriate BCII and FBI background checks required.Must possess communication skills both written and verbal to perform tasks.Must have working knowledge of computer and software programs.Must have appropriate knowledge and experience on vehicle servicing principals and practices including knowledge of shop equipment and tools, ability to detect vehicle defects and malfunctions and perform the appropriate low-level repairs and/or report the noted defects.Diesel engine experience preferred.Must be insurable by board insurance carrier.Must complete all training as required by Sylvania Schools and/or the Ohio Department of Education.Responsibilities:Understand, service and perform low level repairs on the district's bus fleet and support vehicles.Perform emergency repairs.Assist in towing and recovering vehicles as necessary.Power washing buses for annual inspection.Assist in performing maintenance and repair as necessary to prepare for annual spot inspections by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.Attend job related in-service training courses.Function as a substitute bus driver as required.Secure repair parts from various suppliers.Responsible for entering personal absences and clock in/out via the Red Rover System, and to communicate same-day absences to the Director of Transportation and Human Capital.Responsible to check your district email account on a regular basis, and to communicate as needed via email.Perform other duties consistent with the function of the job or as assigned by the Transportation Director.Additional Working Conditions:Exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.Exposure to outside temperatures, humidity, extreme noise levels, vibration, slippery surfaces, machinery, and chemicals.Operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditions.
