GENESIS HEALTHCARE SYSTEM Overview Assist Respiratory Care Practitioners in patient care according to professional practice standards, while providing support for Genesis HealthCare System. Responsibilities Collects and evaluates clinical information. Administers respiratory therapy treatments by performing respiratory medication administration, bronchopulmonary drainage, assisting with breathing exercises, and monitoring physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes. Evaluates and monitors patients’ response to respiratory care and recommends modifications in therapeutic procedures. Selects, obtains, and maintains equipment to assure readiness. Conducts therapeutic procedures to maintain a patent airway, adequate ventilation, oxygenation, and remove bronchopulmonary secretions. Stays current with department information and changes by attending department meetings and reading the weekly Huddle. Demonstrates ability to identify when to accept and refer complex issues to the next level to facilitate problem resolution. Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records. Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Maintains patient confidence and protects hospital operations by keeping information confidential. Qualifications Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a CoARC approved Respiratory Therapy program. Current limited permit issued by the Medical Board of Ohio in good standing. Must take credentialing exam within 90 days of graduation. Obtain NRBC RRT credential and Ohio Respiratory Care license within one (1) year of graduation date. BLS required. ACLS and PALS preferred. NRP within 6 months. Therapeutic skills – Airway management – Diagnostic testing. Ability to read, write, and explain or describe moderately complex information to other hospital staff and patients. Attention to detail. Ability to organize and prioritize under pressure. Displays common sense and ability to make quick decisions. Promotes Patient and Employee Safety: Demonstrates safe Patient Handling (i.e., transfers, transport, care administration, nutrition, medication, etc.) Demonstrates safe Materials Handling (i.e., appropriate use and disposal of chemicals, infectious wastes, etc.) Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of Infectious Disease precautions and use of proper protective equipment. Demonstrates Slips/Trips and Falls Awareness. Actively contributes to maintaining a safe, clean, and quiet environment. Working Conditions / Physical Requirements Works in a hospital environment, may need to travel to all floors and drive to other locations. Answers telephone calls, uses personal computer and medical equipment. Regularly lifts or moves up to 10 pounds, frequently up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Must have vision abilities including up close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must rotate shifts and regular days off.
