As a Building Maintenance Technician I, you will play an important role in supporting campus operations by performing routine maintenance, preventative maintenance, repairs, inspections, and facility support services throughout the Mennonite Village campus. Working closely with residents, team members, vendors, and leadership, you will help ensure buildings, equipment, grounds, and essential systems remain in excellent condition while delivering outstanding customer service and support.

What You'll Do

• Perform routine inspection of buildings, apartments, common areas, mechanical systems, and equipment to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns.
• Complete maintenance work orders accurately, safely, and within established timeframes.
• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain building systems and equipment within the scope of training and experience.
• Perform basic plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, flooring, door, lock, and fixture repairs.
• Assist with preventative maintenance programs and related documentation.
• Replace filters, light bulbs, batteries, ceiling tiles, and other routine maintenance components.
• Respond promptly and professionally to resident maintenance requests and concerns.
• Support room setups, furniture moves, resident activities, meetings, and special events.
• Assist with grounds maintenance, debris removal, and seasonal exterior upkeep as assigned.
• Conduct routine safety inspections and report hazardous conditions immediately.
• Participate in emergency preparedness activities, fire drills, disaster drills, and emergency response situations.
• Assist with resident evacuations when necessary, during emergencies.
• Maintain accurate records of work orders, inspections, repairs, and preventative maintenance activities.
• Utilize maintenance software and electronic work-order systems as required.
• Maintain maintenance shops, storage areas, tools, equipment, and supplies in a clean and organized manner.
• Collaborate with team members and other departments to support campus operations and resident satisfaction.
• Participate in on-call rotations and respond to after-hours maintenance emergencies when scheduled.

Requirements

Availability Requirements

• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, and participation in an on-call rotation when assigned.
• Ability to respond to facility and maintenance emergencies as needed.

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Oregon driver's license and ability to meet organizational vehicle insurance requirements.
• Ability to perform routine building maintenance and repair activities safely and effectively.
• Basic knowledge of building systems, maintenance tools, equipment, and repair practices.
• Ability to troubleshoot and complete minor repairs involving plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and related maintenance tasks.
• Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, vehicles, and maintenance equipment.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English effectively.
• Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple tasks, and work independently.
• Basic computer skills and the ability to utilize maintenance software and electronic work-order systems.
• Ability to follow safety procedures and comply with applicable workplace regulations.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 100 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred

• One (1) year or more of maintenance, facilities, construction, building operations, or related experience.
• Experience working in a healthcare, long-term care, assisted living, retirement community, hospitality, or senior living environment.
• Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and mechanical systems.
• Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or electronic work-order systems.
• Experience working in a customer-service-focused environment.
• Experience supporting emergency preparedness, safety programs, or facility compliance initiatives.
