Registered Nurse - Infusion Assistant Nurse Manager

Job Title

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Serve as the first line supervisor of nursing personnel in the patient care area ensuring the head nurse/NM retains VA Handbook 5007 requirements (examples may include but are not limited to supervising the nursing assistants and/or licensed practical/vocational nurses (LPN/LVNs) in patient care area or supervising the nursing personnel on evening and/or night shift).
• Approve schedules and leave for employees under their direct supervision.
• Appraise performance, recommend performance standards, and recommend performance awards for employees under their direct supervision.
• Serve as hiring official during the recruitment process for employees under their direct supervision.
• Recommend proposed discipline or grievance adjustments for employees under their direct supervision.
• Responsible for assisting the NM with personnel on the unit who they do not directly supervise.
• Draft schedules and leave for final approval by the NM.
• Provide input into the performance of employees with the final evaluation completed by the NM.
• Assist with making recommendations for selection of candidates for employment.
• Apply clinical knowledge/judgement to lead staff involvement in planning, decision making, and evaluating outcomes; provide feedback to the NM who ultimately ensures nursing personnel provide timely nursing care that complies with generally accepted standards of practice.
• Oversee work assignments and provide reports of contact or assist with fact findings as needed to provide the NM with the information necessary to make recommendations for counseling and/or disciplinary actions.
• Engage in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth.
• Adhere to ethical principles in decision-making, foster accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels.
• Equip staff with tools for competent care and promote an environment accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes.
• Promote alliance across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence.
