Branch Assistant

Do you enjoy helping people and being part of a close-knit community? The Allen County Public Library is looking for a Part-Time Branch Assistant to join our Woodburn Branch team.

Woodburn is a small, welcoming community just east of Fort Wayne, close to the Ohio state line. Our Woodburn Branch has a real hometown feel, and the library is a place where people come to see familiar faces, find something new to read, get help with a resource, or simply connect with their community.

In this role, you'll help make sure patrons have a positive experience every time they visit. You'll assist with checking materials in and out, answering questions, helping with library cards and requests, and sharing information about library programs and services. Most importantly, you'll be someone our patrons can count on for friendly, helpful service.

Pay: $14.05-$16.50 per hour

This is an onsite, part-time position with a team that values teamwork, inclusion, and providing excellent service to our community.

What You'll Do

As a Branch Assistant at our Woodburn Branch, you'll be one of the friendly faces our patrons see when they visit. Your responsibilities will include:

• Checking library materials in and out and helping patrons locate materials
• Assisting patrons with placing and picking up requests
• Helping people apply for library cards or replace lost cards
• Answering questions about library programs, services, policies, and facilities
• Providing assistance in person, over the phone, and by email
• Processing fees and payments when needed
• Identifying returned materials that need additional attention
• Using library computers, technology, and automated systems
• Helping keep the branch welcoming, organized, and ready for the community

Every day is a little different. You may help someone find a book, show a patron how to use a computer, answer a question about an upcoming program, or help a longtime patron with something they've done a hundred times before. It's a job where being friendly, patient, and willing to help goes a long way.
What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who enjoys working with people and takes pride in providing good customer service. You should be comfortable using computers and other technology and be able to learn and use library systems and standard office equipment.

You should also be able to:

• Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing
• Follow instructions and established procedures
• Maintain confidentiality when handling patron information
• Keep accurate records
• Use good judgment and discretion when working with the public
• Work well with coworkers and contribute to a positive team environment
• Work comfortably with people of different ages, backgrounds, and experiences

Library experience is helpful, but we're also interested in people who have strong customer service skills and a genuine interest in helping others.
Schedule

This position will work 28 hours per week. Must be available Mondays 11:15am-8:15pm and Tuesdays 11:15am-8:15pm the rest of week will vary.
